Definnitely was the case
Quote:Quote:So no matter what comes next I imagine the 2880 will be remembered fondly for some function or feature that got dropped or re-imagined.exactly. and if it fits the bill for what you need now, the presence of an updated version won’t change that… with all tech, you can spend forever waiting to make sure you get the current thing – meanwhile, you miss all the time of actually using a unit to make things…
if i had to guess, i’d say later summer at the earliest…
MattInVegasMemberOK, now that I’m not dizzy …
Lost the reverse and octsve buttons on the foot pedal, which I use but probably didn’t register high in pre-design research polling (Boss dropped it altogether for their RCXL30; the 4500 still has it on the main pedal). I’ll bet you trigger new loops by holding the record button down (on the foot pedal). The buttons are closer together, which might make it harder to hit PLAY while performing. But being able to sequence different movements and switching loops with the up or down switch could be amazing. A little foot pedal functionality is lost for sound sculpting — glad I bought the 2880 — but the possibilities for playing solo sets is greatly expanded. You really couldn’t switch between chorus and verse before. And you can record backing tracks and beats without switching cards. I’d need to see a demo video and the foot pedal in person though, and the price may keep it out of Guitar Center’s brick-and-mortar inventory.
Reggie Watts has canceled all appointments for the next six months.
MattInVegasMemberYeah, I’m a little lost there. Have not penetrated the midi capabilities of gear I have (Logic, firewire interface, keyboard controller, 2880). Will just have to pick a day and immerse.
MattInVegasMemberI just worked out an arrangement of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” with organ and 12-string presets, a DMM and a Small Stone that could only be done right live with all-in-one, so I hear you. I don’t spite MIDI for guitar; just ain’t had to go there yet.
MattInVegasMemberwell, I’m not seeing HOG2 prices on ebay or a rush to sell HOGs yet. I like the old pedals, but I think that a personal preference. I never really use more than one preset in a song or soundscape, and I take photos of presets I don’t want to forget. One thing to remember — the preset does not slide the bars for you. Once you save it, you still need to diagram the setting if you want to remember how you found it.
I’ve had mine for a year, and am getting better at intuitively knowing how to find a sound, or what an adjustment will do. I’ve had a cello, bass, two organs and a 12-string saved just about that whole time, and the remaining one is a floater set to flute right now.
To me, it looked like Bill R. had a better organ sound in Effectology than I can achieve. The organ presets from the manual sound great better on the high strings (esp chords) than on the lower strings on my HOG.
But once you master portamento with the freeze expression setting there is nothing like it. Love the HOG.
MattInVegasMemberWhich other reissues have suffered from lack of power?
And can someone please hook Julian up with a demo model so we can get the side-by-side comparison?
MattInVegasMemberthat … would be nice
even if it doesn’t save volume levels
MattInVegasMemberGreat demo, Bill.
MattInVegasMemberI think I posted something about soft switches on another string, but since then I’ve gotten used to the 2880’s click switches. I started on the Boss 20XL, but I’ve never gone back — as far as playing at home. If I’m doing an acoustic gig and am keeping load-in light the 20XL is better and the soft switches don’t disturb the ambiance. Honestly don’t know if I’d want soft switches on the 2880 now.
It’s the last pedal you want to bring to a jam, but I’ve gotten real good at making a good loop that a drummer could follow. I started out by exaggerating the stomp motion while playing a downstroke at the same time. Once those two motions get synched it becomes natural. Not all that different from learning to sync a foot with hands in drums.
but I still would like a:
1: Replacement for the memory card
2: A cordless foot controller
3: A function that automatically snaps the speed of the track back to the original key if the tempo is alteredebay on gauging the value of the NIB 2880
MattInVegasMemberI bought a bunch of cards on ebay and about half of them work. Will go through when work allows and post what works and what doesn’t. I am so sorry I ordered the cards and did not give ebay feedback right away about the ones that didn’t work.
I’m sure cards will not be part of the next looper.
MattInVegasMemberOK, foolish me, but when I turned the dials all the way up for the left in/out and all the way down for the right in/out (I’m using the left) I don’t have this problem.
MattInVegasMemberThat port is relatively fragile compare to shove-it-in ports. Definitely best to look at what you’re doing.
Some of the cards I bought on ebay were defective – buyers beware
MattInVegasMemberAdd a Freeze pedal after the HOG.
MattInVegasMemberNow I want to open it … just to look.
MattInVegasMemberGet the HOG
