just wanted to check back in on this.

I asked EHX for help on their facebook page. Someone contacted me, said that they got approval from Mike Matthews to take care of my repair for free.

    thanks EHX!

I’m with you on this one. Had to pay for shipping both ways on my Memory Boy even though it was under warranty. They fixed it but didn’t leave a note of any kind so I have no clue what was wrong.

Just crapped out again this week, same thing, barely audible volume when effect is on so now I have the option of paying another $24 in shipping roundtrip.

That would be $48 in repairs for a pedal that costs $130ish brand new. that sucks.

I’d love to hear from someone about this on this forum.

EH Man, regardless of the problem here, what’s the fix? Sending it back to EH?

I sent my Memory Boy back and they had a quick turnaround and I’ve had no problems since.

My only complaint would be as follows and I’d be interested in your opinion on it as well—why does the customer have to pay $12 for shipping? It’s not a lot for a repair, but if it’s under warranty and a pedal costs about $100, then you’re paying more than 1/10th of the cost of the pedal for something that should be fixed for free.

I understand things will happen and toys will break but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the customer.

    it’s really annoying

I might ditch the MMM because of it

thanks for the ideas. appreciate it.

I don’t have another adapter but I can’t see how that could be the problem since all of my other pedals work just fine off it if I pull them out of the chain and run them solo.

No battery in it and I don’t have a battery clip converter thing either.

I’ve never tried to run it on battery. Maybe I’ll see if that works by itself.

jumping back to this one after having left my MMM in the chain and forgotten all about it

still won’t work on it’s own when not chained to another pedal. too weird.

my onespot works fine w/ all of my pedals so that’s not it.

it’s something w/ the MMM but I don’t get how it could be the power supply since it works just fine with another pedal in front of it.

haven’t tried the battery but maybe that’s it. I don’t know. too weird.

    anyone else had this happen?

Thought I’d check back in here

Got it back from EHX yesterday. About a 2 week turnaround. Same unit that I gave them as it still has the same scratches and velcro on it. Works just fine now but no note in box, no indication of what went wrong and it cost me $12 to ship it to them and another $12 to get it shipped back even though I’ve only owned it for 9 months (inside their 1 year warranty if I remember right).

Anywho, I’m not unhappy since it was a gift and $12 each way ain’t too much but all in all, uh, it should have probably worked right, it would have been cool if they paid my shipping and it would have been really cool if they told me what they repaired so I’d have an idea of what broke in case it breaks again.

Still love it and their products, that’s my unsolicited feedback is all.

    back to nerding out now

I took a look at the guts and was hoping to find something like a big burn mark or have something just kind of fall out so that it was glaringly obvious but didn’t catch anything like that

I’ll check the boards tonight but they seemed pretty well stuffed in there and weren’t moving if I remember correctly

on another note, the components they use on those boards are crazy tiny. how could you ever repair/replace some of those?

Howdy Again. Been a while so I thought I’d update this one.

Got a new amp now. Fender Humboldt Blues Junior. This thing rips and makes my pedals really come alive. It’s almost like starting over again in some ways which is great for me.

I have an even longer and more ridiculous chain of pedals now. It looks like this currently.

    Tele->Dunlop Crybaby->XO Worm—>Boss Blues Driver->MXR Dist III->Big Muff Pi NYC->MXR Fullbore Metal-> Micro Metal Muff->-Electric Mistress->MXR Phase 90—>MXR Carbon Copy->EHX Memory Boy->EXH LPB-1->Boss RC-2 Looper->VOX AMP & Fender Blues Junior

I also have a BYOC Confidence Boost in an enclosure and made into a real pedal that is great, especially in conjunction with the EHX LPB-1. I’ll pull one of those off and throw the BYOC CB in the mix for fun but it has yet to find a permanent place. Probably gonna ditch the MXR Fullbore. Good idea but just sounds so compressed and weird. Metal Muff is more fun for me.

Ok, after my rambling, here is my question.

My Big Muff NYC is sounding more and more hissy and crackly just when I turnt it on and I’m not playing. Tried it with a battery, no better or worse. Different outlets, taking it out of the chain, no better. Going from single coils to humbuckers, no difference really.

I know they’re noisy beasts but either I’m imagining it or mine is getting worse. I’m handy enough to check the board inside and the connections all look great. What could be the cause?

After owning the xo worm for over a year, I found myself not using it too much because as people stated here, the effects on it are all pretty mild for the most part. I had it before my dirt just because it sounded a bit cleaner there (duh) and that clean trem or wah was what I’d usually use it for.

Just messing with things a bit and I put it after my dirt and now I think I really like it again. You’re right, the vibrato………you could get more vibrato w/ your finger most likely.

Trem-weak for a trem but if you have a high-gain pedal before it it can be just what you want
Phaser-Not as swooshy as my Phase 90 but a different flavor
Wah-can be real funky or weird

The most fun I think is dialing in the wah sound to a specific setting and then switching it over to manual to lock it in. With a nice dirt pedal going into it it sounds pretty sweet
