I added some sound clips to my Big Muff Sound Clips page comparing the BBM to the Black Russian Muff so you can hear how similar they are. They are really close, except for some loss in clarity on the low notes when using the BBM, especially the E string. For mid range lead stuff, they sound practically identical.

Good work man your site is very informative and well done…How long did it take you to put all that together?
As for as the Sovtek vs the BBM..I do here some tone differences ..But as other have said not enough to make a huge difference….It seems to me the difference is in the attack …

I know some do not like the Sovtek ..As for myself i think it is the best muff on the market…I have owned many high dollar Fuzz boxes including Blackout effects and Z vek… But i always end up getting rid of them and keeping the Sovtek on my board… .Yes it has some reliability issues ..Heck the last one i bought worked for 3 weeks before i had to return it because of a problem…I may go an try the BBM..Just because of it’s size it may be the answer im looking for..The Sovtek sound in a smaller enclosure..

I would say maybe the Wiggler? Though I have never used it. I kind of dig the vibe on the Worm even though it’s subtle. Is this for live or a studio? The Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe is one of the warmest best sounding Vibes I have ever heard but it takes a second to “ramp up”.

This would be for live use..In studio i use computer generated effects programs

Obviously you are not reading the post it is suppose to be funny not taken seriously…Unless they would take my advice and make a nano russian muff…

Also i would like to take issue with the suppose it cheap enclosures on the Sovtek Big muff …I own the last issue Russian it’s enclosure is the same thickness and size as the NYC Big Muff PI reissue

I think EH MAN has found the problem the way you describe what happens sounds just like the OP said his Russian was doing…Im about ready to buy about four of these Russian muffs so i have enough to last me the rest of my life…

Message to EHX Since you discontinued the Russian muff why don’t you put all your technicians to work and figure out how to make the Russian in a nano or little muff size…

You can use one w/ a higher mA rating as long as the voltage and polarity are correct.

Thanks that is were the confusion came in i see they have one listed as a 55ma 9vDC..But not the 45ma thanks again for the help…

Can you tell me which power adapter to use for a Memory Boy ..The original i believe has shot craps i know it is 45ma 9vdc ..But the closes EHX power supply i seen is 55ma 9vdc will this one work?

I feel your pain on this ..I’m a huge EHX fan but this memory boy thing is terrible..The first one i had was dead out of the box so i took it back…
The second one would refuse to oscillate on the chorus mode.then would do nothing if you turned up the delay…I took it back..The store was looking at me real cross eyed by this time..
So they give me another one now 37 days after having this one the power supply i believe has gone bad..It went from sounding perfect to acting all funky in a matter of minutes..
It will work fine with a battery for about five minutes then start acting funky again..I have read that a battery is not strong enough to power a memory boy..
So out of curiosity a ran a battery wire adapter to a one spot and it works perfect..So it must be a power supply issue along with the fact battery’s can’t power a memory boy for any length of time..Even Energizers or Duracel..
I love my EHX pedals but why would EHX treat there customers like this on the Memory boy..It is a great sounding pedal but the reliability is worse than a 20 dollar Berhinger pedal..
They even admit to all the problem on the advertisement on the Deluxe memory boy by saying all the problems with the memory boy have been fixed..
    What is that?
It feels to me like there saying we know we screwed you on that pedal but if you liked the way it sounded buy this one and it will work were the memory boy was just to wet your appetite..
Please EHX im a huge fan of your pedals but this is wrong..
As others have said admit there is a quality control problem and do a recall on the Memory Boy fix them and return them free of charge with out shipping charges..

I’m having the exact same problem …I think it is a battery issue my power supply went bad and i used battery only to have the same problem you described..I think the problem is a Memory boy needs more power than a battery can give and must be used with a power supply..Do not use a one spot either as this will affect the pedal in nothing but a negative way…Unless you use a battery plug in which means leaving the back off..

I prefer the Russian muff to the USA Big Muff reissue ..I like the darker sound of the Russian ..Although i do feel that the USA Reissue is more versatile..Were the Russian is more of a get it to were you like it and leave it pedal…

correct. the tone wicker is half the size of the original in every dimension. its the same size as the little big muff.

Well if it is the same size as the Little Big Muff it makes it a real easy decision i will be ordering the tone wicker..Thanks for the help

    Hi Invader,
Did you purchase the pedal specifically for the hall reverb setting? Kinda curious since you already have the spring unit on your Fender amp. Or maybe you need it for another reverbless (is that a word) amp??

    -Kirk

No i bought the unit for use with my Marshall JCM 800 50 watt combo that lets say the reverb on it is less than desirable…But even so i like the hall reverb better than the spring reverb on my Fender ..But the spring reverb on my Fender is better than the spring reverb on the pedal..But the pedal is better overall..I got myself confused reading that so i hope you can follow what i’m trying to saying…

Thanks for the idea’s..The tone wicker’s size is smaller than a Big Muff Pi correct?..I think i’m leaning more and more towards the tone wicker…It sounds like everyone really likes this pedal…

In 15-16 years of playing I’ve had zero need for compressors.

Whatever you get get the BMPTW and the original chasis small clone, the two best pedals IMO.

Ive never had a use for compressors either. It seems like a lot of people cant play without them. I never understood this.

I would get the BMPTW. its seems like its the most versatile.

I felt the same as you did for along time almost 20 years of playing never used a compressor ..Then a friend of mine was ranting and raving about his new Soul Preacher..He brought it over for me to check out..I plugged it in my chain and started playing and my tone was better than it was without it..Then i started finding my adjustments and fine tuning and my rig just started sounding better and better..I can’t sit here and tell you why or exactly what it does but it just does..
It is not like a huge difference it is kinda like bringing a camera into 100% focus from say 93% focus ..It just makes things that much clearer that much tighter it takes off some of the rough edges..This is on the Soul Preacher i have never owned any other compressor to compare it with..
