Overheating it’s a clear sign of an internat short circuit
Something is drawing more current than usual.

Yes the power supply for tube pedals is 12Volts AC because it gets converted into 220V (in most cases)
internally by an step up transformer.

Check your fubes there might be one with an internal shot. i don’t know the english muff design but the only source what could be drawing current a lot are the tubes. if there was IC’s inside they just overheat and do weird noises (if they do) but they don’t draw so much current except if there is any regulator inside.

    Hope that helps.

I’m sound engineer and electric engineer but i still haven’t got my degree because of health issues.
I worked as a sound engineer as a live sound engineer and recording/mixing engineer. I’d love to be able to work
in EHX cause i’ve been working on my own with tube amps and effects for about 11 years (now i’m 31).I work on my own in my tech shop where i build and modify amps and stompboxes, custom switchers etc.

i say go for it the mix between both worlds (sound and electronics) is amazing. When u understand how physics are applied in the same way as electronics 2 worlds blend nicely.

i wonder if i can apply for a job for EHX since i’ve been familiar with stomboxes for about 12 years. I’d be amazing to design some guitar effect that ends up being an important legacy in music history (like the bigmuff and the electric mistress) cause that’s basically what u do when u record a band in the studio.

Anyone have tried applying for a job for EHX? i’d love to but i live in south america.

    no, not mine..
i found those like 8 years ago or even more on a site
    that is no longer available.

gonna do my benchmarks tests again.

    haha no problem mate..
and also u can check the songs labels on the pedalboard too
    Pug Wound cashcar..etc..

my guesses are that the Corgan’s muff is a V3 4 Transistor Version. I’m gonna mod my bigmuff with the schematics of those versions i have.

    i think they’re also rebranded 2N5087…

Kitrae Site has tons of info on those.

Almost All triangles and sovteks. have a bassy response.
    For that i’m comparing with a ram’s head and a 3rd issue.with 100nf caps on the diodes

here is a video where this bass response difference is shown between

an original Triangle Muff and a Skreedy Mayo
The mayo has less gain (2N5133 NOS) and 100nf caps

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDmQDGEWtuM

I once moded my usa version with the EH3003 schem using original caps (having an original to use as a guide)

and the sound was similar but lacked grit and growl..(crunch) it depends of ur gear defo.

and about the FS thing… 2N5088 and 2N5087 are the best transistors u can find or put on a bigmuff…

I really don’t think that the corgan muff is modded, it’s normally a stock version… and OP AMP version sound apparently really close. But your mod sounds really cool… what is it? because I have a creamy dreamer muff but don’t sound like it!

I’ve been testing and modding bigmuff since 12 years ago. Actually the bigmuff was the first pedal i’ve made. I was almost there when jeff doucette started that thread on the ampage forum requesting bigmuff mods..! (looong time ago) and u know the rest of the story (Creamy dreamer).

There are some V3 bigmuffs that contains the transistor version inside. The Circuit is a 1980 4 transistor NPN version of the bigmuff. This one is really close to the actual USA version with minor differences.

An OP-AMP bigmuff stock WAS used by corgan to record gish!. That’s the only close bigmuff that will give u that thin sound with lots of sustain.

However that bigmuff version won’t give that fat growl sustain that siamese dream has. That bigmuff has to be an either Version 1 or 2 bigmuff not another one.

I’ve tried almost all versions. I also have a Ram’s head modified Usa Version and it’s sounds cool but it lacks soo much bass and sounds more “refined” and friendly. The Triangle version has soo much bass response that saturates the pre-amp tubes badly so it starts compressing the sound giving you that smooth sound.

The clip i’ve posted before was recorded with heavier strings and a humbucker pickup on the brigde. That’s why it sounds sooo fat compared to siamese dream (even though i had to turn the bass almost completely off on the amp’s EQ). With lighter strings and single coils it will have more treble and edgy sound. That clip was recorded with a cheap.. cheap microphone. The amp (peavey ultragain) is similar to a JCM800 in design but uses 6L6 tubes on the output. Matches the theory that Corgan used a JCM800 with KT tubes on the power section and the bigmuff.

I’ve tried my usa modified with tons of amps and it gives me that close sound with peavey’s and marshall’s.

It gives me that same sound and harmonics from siamese dream, but that one doesn’t work for Gish stuff. that one has to be an stock op-amp version.

Blondegraemey has a few ones (including the op-amp version) , he test them on this clip

i got another picture of that bigmuff years ago
    from the “machina” tour

that one has a small sticker on it (price tag) and the settings are almost close to that one except that the sustain is about 9′ o clock.

it’s known that siamese dream bigmuff was modified.

y can get the same tone with my modified USA version.

sry for the mistakes but i was just testing it.

    i have all of 3

deluxe mistress reissue with power cord
    small clone DIY
    polychorus reissue

The deluxe and small clone has a brighter sound since the different input sections
the polychorus is way bassy compared to the small clone or even the mistress

although you can “emulate” some clone settings but they will sound darker and bassy sounding (because of the characteristics of the polychorus)

the polychorus doesn’t emulate quite well the deluxe mistress, but i’ve read that the old one does quite closer to the mistress so if you want to get shimmering extreme chorus sound = get the polychorus

if you want something more usable and musical = get the mistress

if you want something more musical and simpler = get the small clone

The polychorus can get those feedback noises as the memory man with less delay time, but they sound the same and also can get the same delay + modulation sounds in my opinion.
