as far as i know the only difference between big and small are that the capacitors in the small one are better quality.

The bent-steel EHX pedals shape and thinness of metal help shape the electromagnetic field the pedal creates into a more pleasant shape, resulting in more even order harmonics, and therefor better tone.

Whereas the XO and Nano boxes shape the electromagnetic field improperly, resulting in more odd order harmonics, and therefor worse tone.

Why don’t we have a sarcasm smiley?

Of course the possible differences in sound between the big box versions and the XO’s have nothing to do with the enclosure itself, but with the components used. Even if the schematics are in theory the same, the SMD’s used in the XO’s do have an influence on the sound (among this lower noise from what i’ve been told).

These differences in sound can be positive or negative, that is for each to decide after hearing it himself. I don’t understand why each time someone says, after trying both versions of an effect, that one sounds different, there are always comments trying to make us believe we are wrong. :freak:

Because with something like a this thread the implication is that it’s an ‘old’ vs ‘new’ difference, and the ‘new’ is somehow ‘not as good’ … when we know that ALL old DMM’s sound slightly different anyway…so the comparison isn’t really a fair one. While there are many old DMM’s that sound different to the new ones, I’d bet you can also find old DMM’s that sound almost identical to a new one and I suspect that the people saying they don’t hear a difference probably don’t. I personally don’t believe the difference between old/new is any bigger than the difference between old/old….so in that case the new version really isn’t any different to the old one is it?

There definitely are differences. People tell me the Tone Wicker with the tone on and wicker off is the same as the NYC muff- I don’t hear it. They sound different to me.

But I think people fall into the trap of spending too much time comparing and not enough time enjoying.

I originally designed the Deluxe Memory Man for a 550 msec. maximum delay. Some units, due to component tolerances and other manufacturing variables, do not have this long a delay time. Due to variances in the factory alignment of the trimpots and the results of rough handling on alignment, some units have cleaner repeats and more headroom than others do. All these problems can be corrected through the proper alignment and modifications that I offer. You can get at least 650 msec of maximum delay time before distortion is noticeably increased at the longest delay settings.

I DO NOT WORK ON digital pedals such as the “hazarai” model (not my design) or those like the XO models made with surface-mount components.
