on solo probably yes, but not on the rhytmic section

I think that just the difference between strat (left) and les paul (right) and the 6 or 8 tracks make this sensation of octave.

That V4 sounded really great there. The V3 sounded a bit too ‘pleasent’ to my ears.

The V4 definitely sounds closer to Siamese Dream. That flat crushed fuzz is very unique to those op-amps. Not exactly the same tone as I hear on the record, but I’m not using the same mics, preamp, cabinet, or any EQ or compression in the mix. Here are Billy’s actual guitar tracks from Cherub Rock.

Still, the transistor V3 tone works great too!

Where did you find this Isolated Tracks?!

OH Yes The Op Amp! it sound so fat! I have finished my opamp Big Muff today, and now I can affirm that the Pumpkins Muff is an Op Amp model!!!

in reply to: Billy Corgan’s Muff pic! What version is it?! #104230

Arf, but differents sources says that it will be an OP AMP version… so I think it will be the true.
We got the chance to choose between 2 models, it’s a good thing :)

Pictures of the 3rd issue bigmuff that corgan used on the machina tour

Actually, if you look closely, the Muff in those pictures is the same Muff pictured in the recent Blog. The scratches are all the identical (though the recent photo has a few more), especially the big chip in the red line above the letter M. “AC” is visible on the top, indicating this is a V3 or V4. You can see it if you alter the brightness and contrast of the photo, below.
    BC_Muff_COMPARISON.jpg

You can also see Billy’s white tick marks showing the same settings as the knobs in his recent photo. The actual knobs in your pedal board photo are not set to those marks, but it looks like the board has not been set up completely yet either. But look closely at the tone knob, It’s almost at 12 o’clock. You can’t do that on a stock V3 since the tone pot is upside down. So from the two photos we have two pots that don’t jive with the V3 pot sweep, just the V4.

Interesting. Are you sure those photos are from the Machina tour? (EDIT – Never mind. I see Billy’s Cenobite skirt! It’s Machina)

So after your super post, we can say that Billy use a 77 Op AMP Big Muff. I’ve finded this message on a website:

There were only some 2000 of these circuits made; Billy Corgan has a couple, so you can hear them all over Smashing Pumpkins recordings.

I really don’t think that the corgan muff is modded, it’s normally a stock version… and OP AMP version sound apparently really close. But your mod sounds really cool… what is it? because I have a creamy dreamer muff but don’t sound like it!

in reply to: Big Muff Op-amp, replacement chip? #103076

Okay, thanks, but no ones of them, can be very very similar to the NB?!

in reply to: Billy Corgan’s Muff pic! What version is it?! #102843

Yes I finded with lot of pics that the big muff with AC on top are more probably OP AMP version

It will be hard to get the muff from Billy corgan… :p

in reply to: Countdown to the new Deluxe Memory Man #95656

Hi all, this is a little story of nothing about me and The Deluxe Memory Man

I always wanted to get the original Deluxe Memory Man but it was so expensive for me. The Deluxe Memory Man was like a dream: big box, big knobs and big sound… for the biggest guitarist.
The first time that I’ve really heard it (but principaly understand it) was during the french tour of Deep Purple. Steve Morse played an amazing strange/experimental solo with harmonic and feedback that beated my heart faster… so perfect. After search I’ve finded the way for make this sound 2 DMM in series.

The second revelation was the song Club Foot by Kasabian… The song begin with “bell”, like Sonic Youth style, with an incredible depth in space. The sound is made with faster picking after the guitar bridge and of course with the Deluxe Memory Man. Listen to the song and immerse yourself in it.

    Kasabian – Club Foot live

Others incredible exemple that you can hear, are on U2 records or Dinosaur Jr records. The Edge, U2 guitarist, has played 2 Deluxe Memory Man since 25 years, and love make great stuff with it again in this time. Listen it, it’s an amazing process to get this sound

    The Edge with Delay

A little list of Deluxe Memory Man player’s

    Quote:
chase harris of the meeting places
    eric johnson
    geordie walker of killing joke
    j. mascis of Dinosaur Jr.
    jeff trott with Sheryl Crow
    kristin hersh of throwing muses
    stewart braithwaite of mogwai
    the edge of u2

I’m very sad because I’ve dreamed to get the original Deluxe Memory Man, with the famous “Big” Electro Harmonix enclosure, one day. And my expectations are vanish.
But sound is sound so I’m sure that the new box will live up to its big sister and perhaps redifine the sound of music again and again.

Electro Harmonix, every time, has rocked the world… so continue!

PS: Excuse of my bad american language, I try to make it perfect but it’s hard

PSS: A strange version of the Deluxe Memory Man… with purple letters

PPSS: Last message… lot of peoples love take 2 Deluxe Memory Man on their pedalboards, after The Edge, Steve Morse or J. Mascis now Cooks of the Artic Monkeys
