If nothing else you might try a compressor/limiter after the B9 as that should control most artifacts and transients.

I have no experience with the Qtron or the voodoo labs 2 but were you careful to match – center to – center and + center to + center?

Well I figured out how to do the bypass, but the pedal is noisy as ALL (BLEEP)! Is that the caveat with this pedal or do you think there might be bad solder joints, transistor, etc? There isn’t any real hum, so I don’t think it’s a ground loop. It’s more tinny. Anyone? Anyone?

Hello all… I bought a MiG 50 last year, it happens to be an orange face 50. Anyone have any experience with one of these? It came set up with 5881 power tubes. It really didn’t seem to have the “balls” it should have, output was rather flimsy. I have a MiG 100 that I am kinda comparing it to. Anyway, should this thing be running EL 34’s? It did have some rather different circuitry on the output sockets, and I figured someone was trying some odd filtering so I changed everything to run the 5881’s as I know it. It now sounds better than it did when I first got it, but since EL 34’s run higher heater current, I thought it may really sound better if I rewire for EL 34’s as it may have been designed. Anyone with any experience with an orange faced MiG 50, and what they were originally wired up for?

    Mig 50 uses (2) 5881 or 6L6. Mig 60 uses (2) EL34.

Thanks… Any idea why the orange faceplate then? Like muffs, what was there that day?

Sorry to hijack the thread but… what’s in tha Avatar? I have a 2X12 loaded with mixed Celestions and find it too dark or maybe not enuff wattage… is that 4×12? my 4×12 is a Peavey with Schefield 70″s for a 280 watt cab… and is the most incredible match to the MiG 100h.

I just got this cab and will be trying it out for the first time at full volume tomorrow. It’s a 4×12 loaded with two Celetion Vintage 30s and two Celetion G12H30s. The idea is to start swapping speakers to fit my tone needs. It’s current loadout is at 120watts if I was to replace the G12H30s with two more Vintage 30s it would go up to 240 watts. I’ve been using a 90s Vox AC30 TB/6 with Greenbacks as my main amp and needed something with a little more lowend. I’m looking forward to useing both these amps together if I can match their volumes well. I’m playing a 61 reissue SG and a 52 reissue Telecater through them.

Yup that’s exactly what I have for my 2X12 (a Celetion Vintage 30 and a Celetion G12H30) for my MiG 50, but I find it a little too dark.

    i just got a mig 50H midget..
i USED to have the (non MV) mig 50 and i was sorry i sold it ..
    Congratulations

First- i noticed some mig 50H heads say MIDGET on them and others don’t, instead they have smaller writing on the left that says “all tube amp”. wondering what that might indicate? earlier later or anything different internally etc..
The tube midget is actually smaller than the MiG 50 in size, and has the master volume

2nd: the voltage selector in the back for playing Europe style or USA electric power grid. the previous owner had been running it @ 100 volts instead of 120 volts … should that affect the tone of the amp, one way or another (hotter or colder) any effect on the tubes etc..??
Eddie Van Halen supposedly ran his plexi thru a variac at 90 volts to achieve his brown sound.

..also was thinking of trying NOS 5881 TungSols BUT.. i think i read somewhere that these amps produce a lot of voltage to the plates and the tubes might not hold up ? any thoughts or experiences w/tubes in general (power & preamp)?? should i just go w/ the sturdier 6l6GC instead ?? and V1 vs V2 & V3
make sure you check the voltages, I’ve seen as high as 480 volt and heard of a lot higher. The tubes in these things I’ve heard were for servo actuators and not actually audio tubes, and supposedly can handle higher power figures, could be myth though

obviously these are great amps with a lot of power and cover a lot of ground.. theres not all that much info out there about em..
i want to do it justice and put the right tubes in it and speaker combination.
Gotta luv these things, best of luck with yours!

ANY & ALL opinions / suggestions welcome thanks

Hello all… I’ve been a MiG player for quite some time now. I’ve got a 100h that I push a Peavey 4X12 loaded with Sheffield 70’s, it sounds incredible. Great story about the amp. I bought it from Musician’s Friend WAY back in the mid to late 90’s, for $399.00. I played it for 2 hours and the whole thing fried, output tubes, transformer, many of the caps… Bad seen! I call MF and tell them it fried after 2hrs playing, the ask me to send it back. Several days later I get a call from Electro-Harmonix, one of their repair techs, and he wants to know the situation in which the amp blew. I explain the circumstances were a couple of hours normal play time, not too loud, etc. He asks me EXACTLY when and where did I get this head. I tell the man I got it about 2 weeks ago from MF. He went on to explain that it was actually kind of old, and must have been sitting in their warehouse for quite a while. He ended up sending me info on Ed Pennpacker, the designer. Once repaired, it has been rock solid ever since. The reason I’m posting though is… I just scored a MiG 50 head with a supposedly rare, orange faceplate, and was wondering if anyone has any info on it? Thanks in advance!

Apologies for openening such an old thread… but I would appreciate suggestions for a newbie. I have a V7 version 1 in rough cosmetic shape, and was wondering if I should repaint it? This is probably asked all the time, and forgive me if I haven’t found the correct thread. Also, I am missing my battery cover as I assume most owners of this model are. Is it actually possible to locate one these days?
