I use a Non-Export MIJ Fender Strat (because you get way more choice with lefties in Japan) with a Marshall JCM900 50w 1×12. considering a Fender Twin or equivalent though.

I’m fortunate to live near perhaps the best EH distributor in the UK :)

    Hotrox? :thumb:

    exactly :thumb:

they don’t just do EH though, they do lots of great stuff. they don’t really sell guitars or amps as such but they do perhaps every type of effect imaginable as well as strings, cables and servicing. i pop in nearly every other week at the moment. i’ll probably try out the DMB and Ring Thing next time. Plus it’s not far from Nottingham Forest :)

ooohh…..tube phaser! it never crossed my mind, but now, dam that would sound so nice and dreamy, now im hooked on a non existent pedal…thanks!

well, Puretube on the HC forums made various tube pedal prototypes for Electro Harmonix and I’m pretty sure he did make a tube phaser prototype.

in fact i’ll see if it’s on google images….

he’s done all-sorts of tube pedals that were never taken on by EH. the tube vibe is either a vibrato or a univibe. i forget what he mentioned on the bulletin boards.

edit: had to re-host the photos.

From my experience with the GF i find that i don’t really like it’s distortion as a stand-alone sound as it’s really difficult to dial in a sound that is any good. It’s either too whistly or too muddy in the space of a millimetre. However the magic really comes in when you use the Graphic Fuzz in fuzz mode BEFORE your preferred overdrive. It gives a whopping boost to the Tube Zipper I use as my main sound.

I think the XO reissue misses a trick by not giving a seperate footswitch for the Fuzz/EQ selector though. I like having the EQ on when playing clean, but off when I have Tube Zipper as my overdrive. Then for my lead sound I like the Tube Zipper on AND the Graphic Fuzz on fuzz mode. Sounds great!

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the EH tube pedals as I have a Tube Zipper (and yes, they’re a little noisy due to them being really sensitive to what your room power supply is) but the main constraint for me was simply the price and the fact that I’ve had no less than 3 PSU’s break on my TZ. I’ve been told that the Black Finger is perfect for recording vocals though, so that may be an excuse to get one at a later date. The WF is the smoothest comp i’ve heard though, hence the choice.

Will EH make any more tube pedals any time soon? I think a tube phaser would probably sound great.

I recently bought the White Finger (the new die-cast case version) and I have to say that it’s so good for clean and overdriven tones that it’s definitely a “stay-on” pedal. I had tried many compressors only for them to buzz a lot, suffer from volume drop or merely make the clean sound worse but this really is something else. Once you’ve had it dialled to what you want (it takes a little white but keep at it) and you play some things the difference between your clean sounds is like night and day. The Black Finger is supposed to be great too but I’ve had PSU issues with the tube-type pedals before. The Soul Preacher is also a good compressor, if a little noisy.

Tube Zipper (using it as an overdrive alone is a revelation, it’s great. Only use the filters for occasional madness)

Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai (what can I say? it’s not just a delay, it’s a pracitcal overdubbing looper, it can do phaser, flanger, tremolo, noise, space drum and ring modulator noises too – has to be tried to be appreciated)

White Finger XO (best all-round compressor on the market for Fender guitars IMO, affordable, adaptable and does it all)

Deluxe BMP (i think i sobbed when this broke, this needs a reissue so badly)

Deluxe Memory Man (i’d still be using this if it wasn’t stolen from me)

Electric Mistress (in a smaller BMP case, so not a deluxe i suppose)

    USA BMP reissue

Graphic Fuzz (a great EQ but the distortion tone on the guitar on it’s own is pretty finicky and has never been a fuzz pedal. however the magic comes in when used before another overdrive or distortion; it can really make a Tube Zipper sing. the XO version really should’ve given the user another switch between Fuzz and EQ)

Small Clone (only does one sound but does it well)

Octave Multiplexer (i think mines damaged, the tracking is bafflingly bad now)

    LPB-1

Sovtek BMP (crappy switches let this down)

Yeah I agree, that would be totally sweet. A reissue of the Deluxe Octave Multiplexer, would also be cool.[/quote]

that would be so great! the Deluxe OM is one of the hardest ones to find. i’ve never played one :(

i’m surprised that this or the Deluxe BMP have yet to be reissued. it’s practically a no-brainer demandwise.
