Thank you for your answers both of you :thumb:
I guess what i want to know is whether the Germanium 4 Big Muff is capable of doing everything that the Germanium OD does or whether the Germanium OD is made out of higher quality components? I`m mainly looking for what i`ve heard the Germanium OD do but if i can get it with the added versatility and possibilities of the Germanium 4 Big Muff then I´ll of course go for that. I do however not want to compromise the authenticity of the sound so if the Germanium OD is a better sounding Stones, Stooges type of overdrive then….

    Any idea?

I’m not sure if the Germ4 muff can cover the same sounds as the GermOD or not .. and that’s really what you need to know… from the demos I’ve seen I’m tempted to say ‘yes’ but without actually having the two side by side I wouldn’t really like to guess at that.

I don’t think there would be any difference in quality between the pedals though… so if you like what you’ve heard from the Germ4muff I’d be tempted to get that because like you said originally it doesn’t cost a lot more

Yeah, but the Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi is supposed to contain 4 germanium transistor and hence should be a lot more expensive than the 1 transistor based Germanium OD. What am i missing?

Those transistors would be a dollar each at the most, I don’t think they have much to do with anything cost wise….

Sure it’s only $20 more but there’s probably only $5-$10 (if that) of extra parts inside, most of the pedal ‘cost’ comes from developing and manufacturing the product itself, what’s inside is worth very little really.

these people have the opposite problem (their memory boy’s won’t do what yours does and they want it to!!) maybe get in touch and do a swap?

you can put it where you like, just remember whatever is before it will ‘freeze’ so using it in different places will enable you to create different effects.

    so for example

freeze into phaser… you will be able to freeze the sound then add phase shifting to the frozen sound. Phaser into Freeze will freeze the phaser at a specific point in it’s cycle.

So it really depends on what kind of effects you want to create I guess.

I wouldn’t bother trying to fix it yourself if it’s a new pedal.

One of the best things about stomp boxes it you can move them around in the ‘chain’ to get different effects, most will sound different depending on where you put them and enable you to do different things. It’s all part of the fun, embrace it! :)

change the switch and make it true bypass, very simple to do without an led.

    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nsvZ1rXQwes/TGiBRyyKIlI/AAAAAAAAAl0/kbfXTeendkY/s1600/2pdt.JPG

The ‘jack input’ wire in the one connected to the input jack tip
The ‘jack output’ wire is the one connected to the output jack tip
The ‘board input’ wire is the one that’s on the same side of the switch as the ‘jack input’ wire
The board output will be the one that’s left on the other side of the original switch

    …if that makes sense? :)

I recently did this mod to a vintage LPB-2 you can find pics and details here which might help even though it’s a different pedal it’s the same principle.

    details here!

    hope that helps.

I would put it after so it lifts the sound of the muffin and still preserves the original tone

Good idea, mate! Not what I had in mind (since I want more distortion for soloing) but def. worth a try, thanks!

you can do either, it won’t damage the EM anyway.

Got a reissue Stereo Memory Man (picture attached) from the 90s. It appears to have died (no sound coming out at all). I was wondering if anyone has fixed one of these before I start taking it apart. Suggestions welcomed on what to look for.

first thing I’d do is open it up and look for anything really obvious… Like a wire that’s become unattached from a jack socket or whatever.

are you getting any bypass signal or anything at all?

Zach Vex of Zvex, for example, makes it a point to build his pedals to be extremely efficient with very low power draw.

So he says….. or does he just happen to make pedals with a low current draw and then use that as a clever ‘sales pitch’ ?

I’ve had the same battery in my Big Muff for about a year now. I’d guess it draws around the same as a zvex fuzz.

…I’d bet the LPB-1 is just as easy on power as a super hard on too.

That’s a great thing to do, I’m sure that will help a great deal.

I’d urge everyone to make a small donation to one of the charities involved in the relief, everything helps.
