In the case that anyone’s interested, I picked up a Green Russian and an Opamp. The Green Russian is definitely a distinctly different sound. I’m quite pleased to have all three to switch in and out.

Now on to the Big Muff with Tone & Wicker…let’s see how that one is.

The expression pedal is required to save a preset. It doesn’t have the same preset-saving scheme as the Cathedral, SMMH, and Ring Thing.

You’ve also got to bend down to change effects.

That’s not to say it’s a bad pedal, however. This thing does something special and will never leave my board.

I love it. I should have written a follow up. It works beautifully with bass. It is super quiet. It doesn’t remove any high-end frequencies, that I can hear anyway. I think the blend knob is the real secret here. I considered the Platform because it is very flexible and has other nice features, but all I really needed was the compressor and I’m trying to stay as analogue as possible. I’m not a total analogue snob, I have a Small Stone and a Canyon Delay in my chain, but I just prefer to stay analogue as much as possible because it tends to match the input and output impedances and levels best, and also produces the least amount of noise. Strangely a lot of the digital circuits produce noise that can be transmitted through the power cables and radio type interference.

So, anyway, I really like the Tone Corset, and I think that a large percentage of electric guitar players underestimate the usefulness of a compressor, especially a four knob compressor like this one with a blend.

I should add that it makes my Danelectro 12 String electric sound fantastic. It really evens out the octaves. It makes my Taylor acoustic sound fantastic. It makes my ukulele with a piezo pickup sound fantastic. I use it for everything at the beginning of the effects chain, even if I’m not using anything else but the Tone Corset. It’s my most indispensable “effect”.

Good stuff. Thanks a lot for this. I think I’ll give one a shot. I have a lot of high end gear, but EHX stuff is special and was the first stuff I was into many years ago, so I’m back at building a very nice set of pedals on the floor.

I play a Jazzmaster and a Jaguar and compression really brings out the chime in these things. I also play a Rickenbacker 330/6 and a 330/12. I use a Janglebox for those and actually couldn’t imagine it any other way. Now I’m quite curious to try the Corset with my 12.

I just received my new Tone Corset! I’m interested in using it both for my guitar AND my bass. The Soul Preacher came in a guitar version AND a bass version to handle the dynamics of the bass, and especially active basses. The Tone Corse has a pad switch to prevent unwanted overloading, so a bass-specific version is unnecessary. (Yay!) I should be able to use the same pedal for my guitars and my basses. We’ll see.

How do you like the pedal? Does it remove any high frequencies and is it quiet? I’m currently using an MXR-176, which I really like.

I’ve also got a Platform, which is quite the toolkit. The compressor side is nice. It’s digital, but it’s nice. Not M176 nice, though. That thing’s actually got an awesome (digital) overdrive.

The Bass Muff isn’t a re-issue as much as the voicing was “inspired by” the Russian muff. The Bass Muff, as a result, has a distinct sound when you compare them up close, although they are similar. As well, the Bass Muff’s tone pot is set for bass (while the Russian is technically a guitar pedal) and the Bass Muff also has the toggle missing from the Russian.

They are close but different. I’m a bassist and I jumped on the Russian re-issue!

Great. Thanks very much for this info. I think I’m in for the Green Russian then. The demos I’ve heard have really sounded quite nice. And I hate to even make it a factor, but that pedal even LOOKS super cool.

A big “Hi, eh?” from Canada!

I’m a bass player from Saskatchewan looking to discuss some pedals and share the EHX love.

My rig is EHX exclusive and I have never found a reason to go elsewhere (except my tuner pedal, for now). Hoping to learn some new things, develop my playing, and have a few laughs with fellow gearheads.

Welcome, eh! Montrealer here…it’s been some years since I visited this forum.

My pedalboard is almost EHX-exclusive, but I use an MXR Studio Comp. I’m somewhat curious about the Tone Corset, but that MXR is quite good.

Does anyone know if a mod exists that will make the Stereo Memory Man/Hazarai not change my tone (extra high end) when engaged?

I think what you’re hearing here is the SMMH buffer in action, which is restoring your high frequencies that were lost from cable runs/other pedals. I personally have not experienced this, as I have buffering a bit earlier in my pedal chain.

Nice one here. All EHX is an awesome thing, however I went with an MXR176 for my compressor. I’m somewhat curious about the Tone Corset (I have a Platform), but that MXR compressor is just too nice.
