    well o.k.

i love MBV, BUT the sounds on it aren’t that fancy stuff.
mainly it’s just about 24 tracks of electric guitar! :-)

of course, there’s delays and reverbs and fuzz…

but as i said – nothing fancy!

as far as i know, only distortion/fuzz pedals and maybe ringmodulators sound different with a new or used battery.

if you like the tone of lets say the BMwTW with a new battery, there will be imho no audible change in sound if you use an adapter.

Analogman though has to say something on the topic and recommends the great idea: the virtual battery from gigrig!

    analogman writes on his site:
A power jack may add AC hum noise, and a power supply can affect the tone, as the best sound is obtained by using an old style non-alkaline battery. I get these two for a dollar at the DOLLAR STORES. I like the Maxell or Panasonics. An Alkaline battery will sound a bit dull in a germanium fuzzface, it can lose some character (you can hear the difference in a sound sample above). It’s not just the voltage that makes batteries and power supplies sound different. It’s the resistance, inductance, and capacitance in the battery, which is part of the circuit in a fuzzface.

A power jack can also cause oscillation (squealing) on some high gain sunfaces with some power supplies. TheGigRig virtual battery should solve oscillation problems, along with isolating the power supply so you can use any power supply with our positive ground pedals. The VBATT also solves ground loop problems which occur when you use a daisy chain or the same power with more than one pedal. We now offer the Virtual Battery as an accessory and sunface option on our shopping website. Here is more info on the GigRig Virtual Battery

So Julian – honestly – you’ll gonna sell them?

There seem to be problems with the hollow earth AND it’s not compatible with the hog yet as i read.

there’s another great video which shows the hog being manipulated with a theremin+ and a MP-201 both moog! amazing, but a bit expensive – although i must say, that the MP-201 looks like a very great tool!

    the vids here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoOdP0CaP5A

only thing i’m worried about is – will i ever stop fooling around with my hog? ;-)

    @friedjesseradio
: i try voodoo now, so the guys @EHX will think they have to build it NOW! ;-)

    Hey Julian,

    way to go!!!!!!+!

amazing sounds! that’s what i was thinking about – and the HOG ist jsut the beast for it:

i mean – filter, pitch and volume sequenzing via a tremlike EP!!! great stuff.

you even can do tremoloing via the volume setting.

sounds amazing – very good video.
sadly i’m not that good at electronics – i can’t do my own pedal.

now that would be something EH should do! the more, as they have many new pedals with EP-plug!

think about what you could do with the new stereo polyflange coming up next ;-)

    saliva-liva-liva

maybe we should recommend such a pedal in a thread of its own???

    best regards

sounds way cool – could you post a few of those mentioned weird sounds?

i imagine – a sequenced octave bend?!?!? wow!

i don’t wanna think about what a random mode would sound like in freeze/gliss :-)

    way to go!

I think Julian is right – it’s mostly about attack/decay on an rather heavily distorted signal.

you’d need a good squarewave distortion/fuzz and then something to get the quick attack decay.

i don’t know if the attack/decay dials on the hog would do it.

what you’d really needed would be a circuit breaker, like unplug the guitar chord or even an “on/off”-volume switch!

i’ll fool around with the hog tonight. but good luck with that one! great sound!

That is amazing! isn’t there a pedal by ZVEX that’s similar and got 9 dials in a row?!

but this one – great stuff.

and it’s a tremolo, dinamix AND programmable EP… wow.

although i think, it could be a little hard to dial in an exactly wanted setting… with just one knob to twist…

    presets – great!

there’s no idea, that hasn’t been before it seems! :-)

    cheers

    Wicked!

    but what a phantastic idea!

and – i mean – this pedal could even be digital and therefor programmable to different waveforms (like similar to random EP movement?!).

even more wicked – a pedal with a touchscreen to “free paint” or generate different waveforms.

    modulation heaven!
and this way you could have analog sound digitally rendered – even with correct tempo!

maybe we should start a company. ;-)

    cheers

i still wonder – will it come true?

i yes, i very much hope, that it will have stereo ins AND outs

an of course – i forgot to mention a blend knob of course

and a level knob would be great – the hoax is a beast and the sounds are out of this world, but some sounds are just so much more louder than others. it’s ok with the hoax, for i think its more of a recording effect.

but we need the best live flanger around! :-)

there still isn’t a great analog flanger who does it (almost) all!

if there’s a bunch of people who can do it – EHX is it!

    cheers

    Air – La Femme D’argent

All the different Fender Rhodes and Moog Synth sounds and FX!

there’s so much in it! And it’s very 70ies Camel/Kraftwerk-Like.

    great stuff in there…

btw – i finally happen to have the HOG and was able to record a little piece of string quartett! amazing realistic! This pedal ROX!!!

    hats off!

Yes, it’s getting difficult isn’t it?
And all the plugs are different – which is not too bad, so you don’t confuse the power supplies, but…

So, YES, a dedicated all-in-one would be GREAT.

but i can’t think of a practicle way to build it. there are just too many different pedals/consumptions and how could you leave this or that out. although – for 18 or 24 or even 40v – 1 output each wouldn’t be enough – some use two hoaxes or BMs…

but – the cool guys at electro harmonix may find a good solution to this!

i’d buy a good one! for sure.

    Hi,
reviving this thread again, as i’m in the same dilemma – chosing POG2 or HOG.
I use the Digitech Whammy for Octave bends a lot and i’ve seen vids, which made me believe, that the HOG could do this even better and a lot more!
A few questions to HOG users or staff:

    1. The attack sliders of the HOG produce a volume swell sound like in the POG2 ?! slow AND fast?

Yes, there is an attack envelope to do swells. The swell time is less than a second, but long enough to do convincing string instruments.

    2. Is there any other chance of getting and dialing in presets than to get the (very expensive) 6xfootswitch (i saw/read, that it’s plugged in via a normal 1/4″ jack, could you use just a normal footswitch to switch from preset to preset?) ?

No. The HOG footswitch has a circuit. Each switch sends a unique signal to the HOG to trigger its preset memory.

    3. do you think or know – will there be a HOG2 in a smaller housing and maybe with a kind of hazarai switch like on the SMMH or the POG2 ?

A few months ago one of the EHX staff said that it was unlikely that we’d see an XO HOG, but who really knows? Personally, I like the large format of the HOG. It gives it more of a synthesizer feel, and it makes the controls easier to manipulate in real time

    4. is it very hard to deal with the HOG in regards of volume differences from setting to setting?

No. There is an output level slider.

thanks for the reply. very interesting really. one last Q: the attack sliders dial in the swell time right? and the slowest is <1sec?
the size is in fact not the problem, only te preset button of the POG2 is very great i think!
