all “go to” EHX aside, do you have any unique, overlooked, rare or just favorite pedals others probably wouldn’t otherwise know about. I see lots of unusual and even boutique pedals through pedalboard thread. Care to tell about any? like how it’s used, what makes it unique or superior, what you like about it, etc.

(In other words, I see so many I want to ask about, but would flood that thread)

Probably my vintage MXR Phase-100. not that special, but i don’t see too many people using it. I haven’t been able to compare it to a reissue yet, but i think it makes a really cool sound though.

    Not really secrets….

    Boss PS-3
    Sonic Crayon Hollow Earth
    Goatkeeper
SMMw/H (I consider it still a secret, as there’s just SO MUCH it can do – in fact mine is such a secret I disguised it; see avatar on left)

There’s a LOT of cheap analog delays out there by digi/dod that are cool – but now that the Mem Boy/Toy and CC are about they don’t make as much sense.

ModFX has a couple cool things.

The Teaspoon pedal is cool, but not realistic until he gets them into wider production.

Effector 13 Nofi bass reducer/noise enhancer. It’s a Tim escobedo circuit that strips the bass from your signal. I play lead/noise in my friends alternative band and I use the nofi to separate my guitar from his. Having such a trashy tone makes playing so much more fun. :metal:

    The Award/Session ‘Sessionmaster’ JD-10

    http://www.award-session.com/jd10.html

….this handy box is something I couldn’t do without and it can serve many different functions, firstly the most amp-like overdrive/distortion you will ever hear from a box, with 2 settings for classic and rock. classic will take you from clean to crunch and rock will go from crunch to metal… very handy if you are borrowing backline, it also has a 3 band EQ…handy for tweeking your sound to a specific venue or guitar, turn the G12T speaker simulation on and it makes a great direct recording box which you can run pedals into …even boosts act like they would with an amp…..and in the event of amp failure you could run direct to desk……amazingly the unit will run on almost any AC adapter positive or negative with an output between 9 and 30v…and it will run for ages on a standard 9v too, so you’ll never be stuck to power it either……it’s a brilliant little box and probably the best £40 I’ve ever spent (used price) it’s such a handy thing to have around and it’s built to an amazing quality.

p.s. is you think solid state amps can’t sound as full and rich as a valve amp check out an award/session ‘sessionette’ amp…..you will be amazed.

Got day’um, you should get paid for all of that hype! I think you about covered it!
But, would you use it out in front of your true amp too (as a drive for example or tone thickener) or is it reserved for only as needed, as an alt. solid state power-pedal? It does look really nice, especially at the price!

-Boss DC-2 / Fromel Lush — I hate chorus, but these things both add an interesting depth if you’re playing a stereo rig.
-Echoplex — even ignoring the echo, the preamp does … something … to your tone. I only really noticed it one day I had the box down for a good clean and was playing without it and boy did my sound suck. I got a EP-Pre now too for those days.
-I have a vintage (1966) Sam Ash Fuzzz Boxx, which adds an unearthly grind I’ve never really found in another fuzz. Low gain, not super high sustain like a muff or splatty like a Fuzz Face, which I like. I have a couple of clones too (one of EH Man’s early Teaser Fuzz and another built by Jim Roth, the guitarist from Built to Spill, both of which are lower noise and sound very similar.
-Fuzzrite! Mine’s from 1968, although I’ve also got a ’67 Guild Foxey Lady that’s a Mosrite build and is a fuzzrite inside. Stooges!
-70s Maestro Boomerang wah/volume pedal. My favourite wah.
-For movement, I’ve got a bunch of old Maestro PS-1 and 1A phasers, one of which sounds better than all the rest (I don’t know why, they’re identical inside), although I also really like the Jen Motorphaser.

Nothing too outlandish in that lot, but it all sounds great. The wackiest thing I have is a ZVex LiFi LoopJunky looper, which is just plain weird. I love it.

hahaha, there’s a lot of things I should get paid for….

I use my amps overdrive almost exclusivly these days (along with my big muff for fuzz) because it’s 3 channel but I wouldn’t have any worries using it as a regular overdrive pedal if I needed too. I’d also be happy to use it as an EQ/fattener if I was switching from hums to singles or something like that in a live situation….honestly, I’d be happy to use it for any situation really….if I wasn’t happy with my amps overdrive channels I’d be using this.
