It certainly can do that CCR type sound though.I think I’m going to make my nephew a small board to go along with the guitar I’m getting him, and I might put it on it for him to play with.
Yeah, its cool. Not a big fan, but I respect it. Learning new styles never hurts though, kind of rejuvenating. Never know when that hot brunette will go nuts over some chicken’ pickin’.
I tried to get my nephews into guitar, no luck. I did make one a snowboarder though. Luckily my niece is taking violin lessons. At least it has strings.
My only complaint about the Pulsar is, how it eats up batteries. Other than that, sweet pedal.

I have a lowpass filter that will do trem sounds if you set it right because you get to the point where it is quickly cycling between filtering everything out and filtering nothing out

very different, I had a wiggler between my two XO pulsars…
the pulsar is a much more versatile tremolo, but the wiggler also does a nice vintage vibrato sound…the wiggler sounds very beautiful for clean stuff (the pulsar not as beautiful) but I found if you blast the crap out of the wiggler with boosts and fuzz it isn’t so happy!!
…because I’m usually playing with lots of distortion and fuzz it wasn’t that useful for the music I play, but if you are more beatles than my bloody valentine then it’s an awesome sounding pedal. very warm and ‘tube-amp like’
January 16, 2009 at 2:34 am #90869redelevatorMemberyears ago i had a vox amp that had tremelo built in and the effect became essential to my electric sound. well i swapped out the amp for a much larger marshall and tried a number of tremelo pedals to replace that sound until i found the pulsar and i have never looked back.

This pedal have given me all my options and then some. So many cool sounds you can get from this pedal. Best tremelo sound I have ever heard.

I like this pedal a lot, I have it since NOV’08 and I’ve managed to get ten settings, five for each wave type (square and triangle) and still tweaking with it.
It looks and sound great, one of the few XO series I own (Others I have are the SMM/Hazarai and the regular six-knob Metal Muff) – I’m a EH’s big box fan.
My only complaints are about “Depth” and “Rate” pots’ performance. I explain:
– Depth: The effect is hardly noticeable until you reach the 9 o’clock mark, then it begins to raise. After 10 o’clock, and until max (the weird “reverse phase tremolo”) it’s OK for me. But, could be possible to improve for better response at lower depth settings?.
– Rate: Here’s the “weakest” point in my opinion. But I’ll point the pros and cons:
* It’s too sensitive which is great because you may get lots of sounds with a little twist – Positive.
* I’ve found the speed range turns a bit difficult to use when you approach to max. level (from 3 o’clock until max.) – Negative.I wish It could have a “speed limit” at max. instead of being “almost plain”, still effect but a bit buzzy.
Despite this, I think is a great effect (sound and quality-price ratio) and I’ll keep it in my board. I have the previous Big-Muff sized Pulsar Tremolo too and I’m comparing both at same settings – they’re quite similar but not the same thing.

I’ve managed to play drone guitar lines using open strings (6th and 1st for example) and natural harmonics on 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th frets while tweaking the speed knob just after playing harmonics (fast->slow->harmonic->fast->slow…)
To emphasize the effect, I kept th MXR Distortion + at max. vol and minimum drive with the Sovtek’s preamp stage almost overdriven. It was nice to see how the sound changed from nasty vibrato to slow paced wave. The thing goes even more from outer space if you add delays to the chain.
Weird… but nice!

May 25, 2010 at 4:04 am #104837eniacmikeMemberThis is my favorite pedal that I own. It is actually inspiring just to play with the stereo pulsar turned on. I like doing ccr type riffs with it, some pixies type stuff, pretty chords. Everything just sounds good with the tremolo. I love just using the neck pickup with the tone turned down or middle, and playing organ type chords. It’s really cool to do swell type sounds with it as well.
It is also really fun to make noise with tons of distortion and tweaking the knobs in the higher speeds.
The only thing I don’t really like is the “sweet spot” of usable speeds is pretty small. Most of the time I need a tempo that is between 9-11 o’clock everything outside of that I only really get to when I’m making noise. That being said the knobs on the EH gear is really nice and offers a smooth resistance so it’s easier to find your perfect spot.
I have yet to hook it up stereo and I don’t know when I will do that, I don’t really have access to two similar amps.
I got this pedal when I exchanged a nano muff, it was the “floor demo model”, and the last one they had in stock so I got it for the same prices as the nano muff! I would gladly pay full price for this pedal though if something happened to it.

After a Big Muff and in it’s square wave it sounds really techo/electro on my bass. Adding a bit of flange from my Stereo electric Mistress is just experimental eargasms
It’s also great to start a song off. Play a note with the rate all the way down and then speed it up and BOOM, off you go!!
Seriously, I use only a few settings, but I’m sure it’s gonna kick butt in the studio next week -
