Hello, newbie to the forum. I hope to be around a while and talk EHX with peeps on here. Anyways, quick question regarding the Stereo Electric Mistress. So far I’m loving it but I have just one problem and I’m not sure if it is normal or not.

So best way I guess to recreate the problem, set the rate to something fairly slow, set flanger depth to max. Chorus wherever doesn’t matter. At the peak (led green) of the sweep it gets so loud it causes my amp to clip and distort. Normal? Or is there something wrong with mine? I can avoid it by turning down the depth, but sometimes I like the effect to be “over the top” it just adds way to much gain to the signal at a small part of the sweep.

This is through a Fender Twin Reverb RE-issue.

im pretty sure thats normal.. if you set the rate till 11 o’clock with high depth it engages into a ‘filter matrix’ like function, so you get these wild sounds. search for this on youtube or here in electric mistress section, youll findo more about this ‘filter matrix’ thing

Thanks for the reply, It isn’t so bad in filter matrix mode, I guess I should say the rate is around 1 or 2 o’clock. Outside of filter matrix mode. It happens when it is automatically sweeping through the flanger, and it’s depth is set higher than 3 o’clock.

I have found if I simply put another effect after it, it helps alot. It was at the end of my effects chain. I put a Memory Boy behind it and it isn’t so bad, (i’m thinking doing that is limiting the output of the SEM) I still have to keep the flanger depth below 3 or 4 o’clock to keep the signal clean. Lately, i’ve just been using it with the flanger depth set to 12 o’clock or even less.

can you post sound clips? in this thread http://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/5652/ there was apparently somehting very wrong going on, i havent heard the clip but maybe its similar to your noise?

the place in the chain shouldnt affect the pedal in bypass, cause the Memoryboy is true bypass (probably). what might be happening is some problem with the power supply (did you change the power plugs?), a bad supply causes noise. if noone knows you can try emailing ehx, their support usually answers fast.
