I was curious which is the favorite Big muff the Sovtek or the PI….I have both but i prefer the Sovtek to me it has a bigger range of use then the PI..The PI for me is better for Hendrix and 60’s rock but for more modern tones i use the Sovtek..I have heard that EHX is no longer making the Sovtek Big muff..I had always thought that it was one of the bigger selling pedals in the EHX lineup..I just wish they would make a Nano version..Anyway which of the two is your favorite the PI or Sovtek?

My favorite are the NYC models…more specifically my version 3! I do love my Sovtek, especially through my Vox AC4TV. Hell, I wish I had one of each version. I love all Muffs.

I own the latest sovtek version and I love it. I’m planning on making several mods to it, but even stock it is great, I want it to be more custom

I have had two Sovtek’s and a 73 Ram’s Head and I love the Sovtek’s. I sold one and modded the other to the Green Sovtek specs and added a tone wickeresqe switch to it, very versatile and awesome now!

i’ve never tried a sovtek big muff, just my nyc muff, so i’d have to go with the nyc big muffs.

I recently got my Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker about a week ago… but I’ve been using my Russian Big Muff (the black one) for a couple months now. They are both very different! The russian one has a darker sound with less sustain. The Tone Wicker version has a brighter sound with way more sustain. I actually prefer the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker over the Russian version. It has SOOO much more fuzz! It also looks cooler! :D

    Hmmm that’s a pickle.
    They’re two different creatures,
I love the Sovtek’s bassy fit.
I prefer the NYC version though after a nice EQ pedal.

The BMTW and the 3003-C revision are IMO the best BMP’s to be released since 1980.

Same gear and setting used for all clips. Strat into Fender twin with a bit of chorus mixed in 50% with a Barge VBjr and some delay.

    Hello:

If I had to choose anything between Sovtek and USA Big Muff… I’d say: both!.

    I mean:

About Russian Muffs: My favorite is the Sovtek “Military Green” Big Muff despite I consider it has more distortion character than fuzz so it sounds more clear and defined even with palm muting, I have one of these and it’s an essential piece of my guitar sound… of course, played through a Sovtek MiG amp it’s really outstanding.

But also I have a good feeling to Black Russian Muffs. I use a late-version of the Black Russian, but for bass guitar (I don’t like it too much with guitar), which is really killer!

    About NYC/USA RI’s:

I own early 2000’s (“pointer-knobs with Carling-type switch) and later ones (“round-knobs and hex-nut type switch). I’ve used extensively for almost ten years and despite they sound similar, I’ve noticed that early RI’s have a slightly wider range of tone control comparing to later RI’s.

I’ve heard that using Big Muff it’s difficult to “cut through the band’s mix” due its mid-scooped sound curve, but there’s nothing you can’t solve if you overwhelm your band sometimes to make them clear that Big Muff rules! (laughs).

It takes some time to get the settings as tone and volume controls interact with each other while you add more or less sustain… but there are lots of possibilities.

… And how amazing is to place two Big Muff in series (even more laughs)?

    Keep on Big Muffin’

    Regards.

    Nacho
