Hi guys. I’m been looking into getting an electric mistress because I need a flanger, and I already have a small clone. However, I’ve been checking out the Polychorus and was hoping to save an extra spot on my pedalboard. Can anyone comment on how the flange compares to the electric mistress, and likewise how the chorus compares to the small clone? Is it worth selling my small clone to get the Polychorus? Thanks.

I’d try it before I buy it. Any dedicated unit (Small clone, Electric Mistress) is going to have a broader range of sounds than a multi-effect unit (Polychorus). If it gives you the sounds you like, go for it.

I tend to like the Polychorus out of all of those mainly because of the wacky sounds you can get from it. But when it comes to getting a beautiful chorus I’d choose the Small Clone.

if you don’t mind working for your sounds, the polychorus is about as good as it gets. you can come within inches of both the small clone and the DEM while nailing everything inbetween, plus it can self oscillate. i would argue that it has a far broader range of sounds than the dedicated units, although it is not nearly as easy to deal with. matter of fact, ive had mine two years now and i still can’t tell what sound im going to get just by looking at the knobs. the rate knob affects the effect’s depth just as much as the width knob, and proper settings on the feedback and tune knobs are absolutely crucial in attaining a decent sound.

that having been said, i don’t think my small clone has left it’s box since i got this thing and the only other flanger ive bothered with is the flanger hoax. the polychorus covers everything.

It is very difficult coming up with new settings (visually) on the polychorus. This is the only issue I’ve had with the pedal.

The polychorus isnt the best chorus nor flanger, but it is a good pedal in other ways. For flanger you’d be better off with the DEM and for chorus the small clone. The polychorus does excellent other types of chorus but for standard chorus it isnt as good as the small clone. It does what I call “spooky chorus” really well, like something from a B horror movie. the flange is ok but isnt as intense as the DEM or BF-2 for example.
I love my polychorus but for standard chorus you cant beat a small clone IMO. You can get really interesting sounds with a small clone AND poly chorus on together.
I advise you buy all three.

Keep the small clone and get the flanger hoax. you can get pretty much any flanging or phasing sounds with it.

I have to admit (owning: small clone, deluxe electric mistress, polychorus, flanger hoax) that the flanger hoax is really cool but, it is a bit of a beast when it comes to understanding…also, another strange demo from me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAOV8MD5iWg&feature=channel_page and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62guMsuGyrM&feature=channel
