BOSS has introduced three Slicers a)The SL-20 b) They included one in their MD-500 c) And the SY-1 has a slicer as well.Ok the sounds are killer but who whants to sound like the other guy?

And they all have interesting sounds but they all limit the user to even numbered meters, not even the super tweekable MD-500 has the ability to play odd numbered meters.

As a creative person I find that extremely limiting.

The other element of a true SLICER is the abilitiy to insert SILENT BEATS when you are constructing your own SLICER pattern as a user.

The 8 step ia very close to being a good SLICER if controlling the PITCH FORK but it has only 8 beats and you can’t have silent beats.

….unless you can in parallel control a volume pedal but with the same slider configuration it is limited because lower pitch means lower volume.

PLUS you can’t have some of the breakthroughs BOSS has made in SLICERS a) Synth sounds (stuff EHX has done with dedicated products) b) Add Percussion elements into the pattern. c) All the other parameters.

I CAN’T STRESS ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE IN PATTERN BUILDING. Of course the SUPER PULSAR shows, you all ready know that. The SUPER PULSAR is another EHX product an inch away from the perfect SLICER: stacked with some of your synh pedals it only needs a pitch parameter.(and ideally a percusive addition)

EHX you are the peoples only hope.
please make a far better SLICER for creative musicians. a SUPER PULSAR DELUX with pitch tracking abilities, synth sounds and Percusive sounds added to the pattern construction oR ATLEAST MAKE A 16STEP CONTROLLER WITH AN EFFECTS LOOP AND A BUTTON FOR EACH SLIDER FOR VOLUME OR JUST SILENCE.

    Thanks!

    UPDATE:
SOURCE AUDIO introduced its C4 synth with an sequencer. YES It gives you up to 16 beats…in other words you can do odd meters. YES you can create melodies like an arpeggiator.

BUT can you insert silent beats?……I mailed them this question and waiting for an answer…because the manual says nothing about silencing a beat. You just adjust the beats pitch…. SO probably………………….. NO!

For me this a Fail and a rather big one. Why? wELL….. because its in the digital domain and easy to do….and INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SILENT BEATS TO CREATE A RYTHM.

too bad SOURCE AUDIO….you were sooo close! and what wonderful sounds! Allot of love and effort was obviously put in this otherwise marvelous product and they have my respect.

EHX PLEASE make something better and learn from the mistakes of others!
    Thanks!

    UPDATE 2
SOURCE AUDIO answered confirming my impression on reading the C4 manual.
    This is their answer:

    “Hi Dimitrios,

Thank you for reaching out. Rests are not currently possible, but we may implement them with a later firmware version. Thank you for your feedback. Noted! :)

    Best regards,

Smart people these guys. And since you can midi sync the new C4 pedal…..IF they actually implement rests they will have a very serious product.

Line 6 have a fairly good pattern tremolo built into many of their products – it’s very programmable and syncs to midi.

To make the ultimate slicer you would probably need presets and midi sync and swing/shuffle percentage and ADSR – it would need a good GUI. TC with their Toneprints might be better placed for making something like this.

Thank you very much. I did not know that about LINE6!
So I checked it out. Very frustrating to find the special manual that has info on the pattern tremolo..but eventually I found it and…..it’s based on the goatkeeper that is limited to 4/4. It has rests fortunately and can be midi synched…that’s very good. And I imagine that if you could skip the last beat, you could have 3/4,2/4 and 1/4.

But is still limited. No odd meters that can go beyond 4 beats. Boss’s canned patterns can extend to 16 beats at times. Maybe I could ask LINE6 for one of their software updates, but I don’t see how they could pull it off, with their 5 knob pedal structure.

hmmm maybe I’m wrong and it IS possible:
    KNOB1: Speed.
KNOB2: Total beat number 1-16, OR even better 1-32
    KNOB3: Select beat for edit
    KNOB4: Select pulse type
    KNOD5: Select mute or skip

Your right about TC electronics, but do they have a programmable tremolo yet? I don’t know.

    Again thanks!
