I just set it for a short delay and put the clean blend at 11 o clock.
sounds kinf od rockabilly-ish
then you hear me crank the feedback to full.
then I crank up the depth to full with the square wave selected set to chorus
what you end up with is a self oscillating rhythmic pattern that I can actually play over without changing!
Just bass into one of my Muff clones into memory boy into the computer no layering or multitracking AT ALL!

August 28, 2009 at 9:07 pm #100989refeedbackMemberMy Memory Boy is completely insane. I literally don’t know what it is going to each time I power it up. Yesterday, with the help of an expression pedal, I could get a maximum delay time of about two seconds. Today, no matter what I did I could only get a maximum of about .7 seconds. On a hunch I unplugged the adaptor and put in a 9 volt battery (a very tight squeeze!). Just now I had a full 4 seconds of (heavily ‘bitcrushed’) delay. I’m not complaining, by the way – I think that this pedal’s unpredictability could be a stroke of genius.

I agree on much of what was posted already:
it’s unpredictable, delay times seem to vary, some times I get about 650 ms sometimes 550. Sometimes it oscillates easily, sometimes not at all…
succulent ducking abilities
warm and lo-fi
intense modulation (not a problem AT ALL for me)
delay knob does have a lot of the longer, more lo-fi repeats after 3 o’clock
other things I have noticed:
when the blend is over to the “dry” side the pedal boosts my signal a bit
it sounds really good to my ears in front of dirt pedals or an overdriven amp
because of the intense range of modulation depth I can get a lot of chorus sounds
the delay knob does have an interesting taper, yes the longer delay times are way at the end of the dial, but this thing can go to much shorter delay times as well. Not only does this give a good range of slapback and reverb type delay sounds but it lets me get modulation sounds without any delay. My polychorus can’t do that, it always has a touch of noticeable delay tp the effected sound.
and live it really held up well IMO. Sounded killer, the warmth and darkness of the repeats was fine, no problem with too much mushiness to my ears. Just good analog sound.

I didn’t like it when I first realized it but using my one spot power seems to make it behave how i want it to.
At my last gig it sounded and worked perfectly, this pedal is a winner for me.

Truth be told, once you get your hands on this you will NOT want to send it back. It’s genius.

It’s EH’s fault, I think. At least, “work with 9v power supply” isn’t true.I made regulator circuit with LM317 IC by my self and got 9.7v from 18v output of my Gator power supply with no problem, but EH should improve this kind of instability.
Hi, just read this and intrigued..im in australia bought mine online so had to get a power supply for it here, mine is 9v but works, should i be using something higher? what is the required voltage for the memory boy. chucked my us power supply out cause its not good here. thanks for a reply in advance!

If it’s OK with your power supply, congratulation, you’re lucky! Keep using it. Some power supply has slightly higher voltage even if it’s labeled as 9V.
My Gator power supply has 9.4v output from “9v out” but I felt it’s not enough because it sounded too lo-fi and max delay time was too long compared to with included power supply.
I guess Memory Boy doesn’t have a function to regulate the power voltage, which other analog delays have. Anyway, it’s very sensitve to power voltage. Someone says delay time varys day by day, or club by club.Or, simply, EH improved later issues.

plug into vintage fender input 1 reverb channel, out from input 2 into input of memory boy output of memory boy into input 1 normal channel of second vintage fender
set the memory boy for minimum delay time, max mod depth, switch to chorus, blend to 3 o’clock, feedback 9 o’clock
stereo chorus!
play withe delay time/depth/blend to taste and try all three mod speeds with the switch (or expression pedal) and it can get all kinds of very nice spacious sounds.
Even the first amp that has no modulation SOUNDS like it does because of the way the two amps interaction… really cool
also works great for wet/dry delay sounds etc.
