    Hello all

    I’ve got a Nano Clone that has recently stopped working. Instead of tossing it out or leaving it to collect dust, I’ve decided I want to try and make a volume attenuator like the Signal Pad. I looked all over the interwebs to see if I could find a video or a simple diagram showing how to make one.

    Assuming the potentiometer and footswitch still work, I’d like to reuse them for this little project. I’m hoping it’s as easy as wiring the pot/input and output to the footswitch and that will be that, but I’m assuming it’s not as easy as I want it to be.

    I’m not sure if the folks running this forum/the people at EHX would necessarily approve of essentially making a clone of one of their pedals, but I want to make use of this broken pedal., and I figured that this would be the best place to ask. Makes sense, no?

    Anyway, thanks for any help that you might be kind enough to give.

    the signal pad really is that simple (although you’d probably lose out on the LED indicator, maybe) but the main thing you’d want to watch out for is the resistance of the rate (or, now attenuation) pot – it’s a 1M ohm pot, meaning the last quarter to eighth of the travel on the knob would be silence.

    One other thing you’d want to watch for is the nano clone is all surface mount components, which’ll be a bit more tricky to work with.

    Thanks for your reply. IT’s good to know that the pot might/would react in such a way.

    Would you have any advice on wiring it up? I have a footswitch with the 9 lugs on it, a TRS input, and mono output and the pot from the nano clone

    alright. Since I’m going to be a little lazy and not put up a diagram, I’ll talk you through this.
    I’ll refer to the connections as follows:
    Input tip/ring/sleeve: iT/iR/iS
    Output tip/sleeve: oT/oS
    Potentiometer lugs: P1/P2/P3. P2 is the wiper leg.
    Footswitch lugs will be numbered one through nine, right to left, top to bottom, like so:

    7 4 1
    8 5 2
    9 6 3

    the switch mechanism will go in groups of three (it’ll either make connections between 1-2, 4-5, and 7-8, or between 2-3, 5-6, and 8-9)

    You’ll make signal connections as follows:
    iT to 2
    P3 to 1
    3 to 7
    P2 to 7
    oT to 7

    Ground connections will be as follows:
    P1, iS & oS to the enclosure (I like to use one of the bottom plate screws but that’s probably a bad practise)

    The following conntections shouldn’t be attached to anything:
    iR, 8, 9, 4, 5, 6

    If you want an indicator light, use 4/5/6. don’t forget to put in a resistor to ground between the LED and the ground.

    Worst comes to worst, draw it out from the directions above. Otherwise wiring diagrams for this sort of thing are available all over the internets.

    you are welcome sir. glad I could be of service.

    you can also use that to have a ‘tame’ or ‘volume rolled back’ setting before a particularly dynamic overdrive/amp overdrive. sound guys will hate it because “it sounds noisy” but screw that attitude, who wants to sound like the 80s “way too clean” sound, amirite?
