I use a couple of sovtek big muff pi’s to distort drum machines and want to make a suggestion:

Add a way to reintroduce bass into the signal if you have the tone control all the way up. For guitars the pedal is designed wonderfully, but in order to get those razor sharp highs with a drum machine it means sacrificing a booming low end.

For me, this is the best distortion in existence for my purposes — and I’ve used them all (nearly literally). The issue with the tone balancing though… it has got to go.

The unit is already incredibly cheap for the amazing sounds it can put out. I’d gladly pay more to get any such added simple toneshaping capabilities.

The new Tone Wicker Big Muff may be what you’re after, it has a switch for bypassing the tone control completely as well as a switch for getting more wicked high end without sacrificing bass. I haven’t picked one up yet, but for drum machine I would imagine it could go like this: you could have all the bass removed, treble at full, high-filter (Wicker) at full treble, high distortion then BOOM you drop the tone control and all of the bass is back in the mix and the audience loses it. That’s a total dance party idea, the type of thing a Dubstepper might throw down, but if that’s not yr. scene you can just keep the tone control removed and retain your bass, then use the Wicker switch to get that biting treble.

Thanks for the tip. I actually got to try out a Bass Big Muff yesterday and went ahead and picked it up due to the better low end, but I’ll check out the other one as well — I’m always looking to expand the sounds I can get. I work mainly within the realm of post-industrial with this setup, but your suggestions regarding dance are noted and appreciated.
