I have to say that I do realy love what the HOG can do….however, I find the tonality a tad lacking…I will make a guess, that it due to the analoge to digital convertors…the one thing that makes me not want to keep it is there is a slight deley between the original signal and the fx output….I am really torn, should I keep it? I can get most of the functionality through my midi guitar set up but the ablity to tweak the sound tactialy is very nice and it does over all track better…????

There is definitely some noticeable latency in the HOG, but I’ve yet to hear a pitch shifter pedal that tracks better than the HOG. It just seems to come with the territory.

I usually place the HOG close to the front of the signal chain. IMO, it sounds best when used in front of distortion, fuzz, chorus, phase shifting, delay, or reverb. Those effects tend to round out the tonality of the pitch shifting.

If you watch Bill Rupperts Effectology videos, you’ll notice that he rarely if ever uses the HOG without some sort of modulation or time based effects. I think the PolyChorus or the Deluxe Electric Mistress in particular sound great after the HOG.

ok….did place evrything after (not using comp at this moment) and it worked better…I am still getting some allising but, again I do enjoy what the pedal can do…I will say that I am not 100% happy with the tone but I am going to keep it so, I am not super disatisfied either…it can do some really cool things but, I am not sure my money was as well spent as I would of liked…I guess I could of gone the midi route but the HOG does track better and setting up all the functionality would be a lot of work…not too mention a control surface to do the same thing also would take a bunch of work….

over all I do not like any EHs pedals that are not analoge but, I will live with this one…

    peace

    Hello All,

One thing I have noticed so far is that the HOG is highly dependent on the sound/tone it recieves. Just a guitar straight in has so far rendered some fairly weak results but when I fitz around with my pedalboard & then go into the HOG it’s amazing what the results are. Also, it’s hard to predict what the results will be. I had just finished recording a part & decided to work on the HOG again. I just plaugged it in to get started & the sound comming out of the thing was just fantastic.
I personnally haven’t noticed any latency problems & I’m currently working on a piece that goes along at 130BPM/eight note rhythm. All the parts are being recorded through the HOG & it seems to be doing great. Perhaps if the part was very straight it might show up but otherwise no problem. I really wish this thing has MIDI patch save because the HOG is so sensitive to the smallest knobbie changes that getting back to them is a problem. Otherwise I so far have no complaints & I’m so glad I got this gadget.
