Hey everyone, I’m new to these forums but I’m a gigantic fan of Electro-Harmonix. I will be getting a Holy Stain for Christmas and I saw in the YouTube demo that you can use an expression pedal with the pitch bend. I love doing feedback modulation, and the pitch bend is fine with that if you crouch down to your pedals and just diddle the knob a bit, but I think it would be sweet to mix in the pitch bend with a dry signal for a lead or something. The problem is, I haven’t been able to find this expression pedal anywhere! Can anyone help me with this?

    Thanks,

    Alkis

Electro-Harmonix doesn’t make any expression pedals- but other companies do.

Boss makes one (EV-5), Moog makes two (EP2) and (MP-201 really expensive super expression pedal), Zoom makes one (FP), M-audio makes one, and you can also use volume pedals with a special Y cable that takes 2 mono 1/4″ to stereo 1/4″. Also the DOD FX-17 has a 1/8″ CV out- so if you use a 1/8″ to 1/4″ cable you can use that too. Also there is the Devi Ever Peep which uses a photo eye.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

The M-audio is the cheapest at about 30 bucks (but it is also made out of plastic). Moog MP-201 is the most expensive.

Personally for your needs, I’d go for the Moog EP-2. It’s built very solidly, and not much more than the M-audio.

Thanks for your help. I wasn’t sure whether other brands’ pedals would work.

I’ve received this message from Ehx contact :

There are a number of compatible expression pedals out there, there are two important points to
remember when buying an expression pedal:

    1. It must be compatible with the Roland style polarity, not Yamaha. Most
expression not made by either of these companies will have a switch, the
change polarity. Underneath the M-Audio pedal you may have noticed there
is a polarity switch labelled “M-Audio” and “Other”. For the HOG this
    should be set to M-Audio.

    2. The expression pedal needs to have a TRS connection. This fact rules
out volume pedals. The pot inside the expression pedal has three
connections, a top, bottom and wiper. The bottom is connected to the
plug’s Sleeve, the top is connected to the plug’s Ring and the wiper is
    connected to the TIP.

Here is a list of compatible expression pedals for use with the HOG or any
other EH pedal. The list starts with my guess of the sturdiest at the top
and least sturdy at the bottom:

    Boss FV-500L
    Alesis F2
    Roland EV7
    Moog Music EP2
    Roland EV5
M-Audio Expression Pedal (supplied with HOG)

    hey guys,

i have a hog 2 with the ehx expression pedal.
since i find it hard to handle, i was buying the roland ev-5 for use as exp for the hog.
    now, that does not work.

but on the other hand-the ehx expression works with my hog and the roland pedal works as expression for my juno keyboard e.g.

does that make my hog2 considerably broken or is there any other guess?

    thx,

    pete
