What cables do I need to use the EHX 8 Step? MIDI cable I have ( used for MIDI OUT of synth to MIDI in EHX??) , CV or Exp out- the jack on the 8 step is 1/4″, I suppose I will need a 1/4″ plug to 1/8″ plug since synths usually have a 1/8″ Gate in or CV in. At this point I’m confused…why didnt you just have a MIDI out from the EHX 8 step????
Some of my keyboard synths have Gate In but actually very few of them. Some of my synths have CV in, again only a few of them- (Like modular Doepfer).
So pretty much my keyboard synths have no Gate or CV in.
Some of the Demo videos- (like the Microbrute to EHX 8 Step) talk about using the Filter in jack- uhhh none of my keyboards have Filter in…
So when I bought the EHX 8 Step I assumed it used MIDI In and Midi Out. Nope it only has MIDI In…
Well now can you tell me which synths can actually use the EHX 8 as designed?
It also has EXPression in. What is that for? Is it for CV in?
Sorry, Sounds like the synths you have will not work.
The 8-STEP is an analog sequencer that connects to the expression
pedal input of many different types of effects pedals, keyboards and other devices. Think
of the 8-STEP as replacing your
expression pedal, controlling parameters in a sequential fashion rather than continuously as
you normally do with an expression pedal. Additionally, the 8-STEP can be connected to
devices that have Control Voltage (CV) inputs.

Ok well if I can use the expression pedal input on the synths… actually many of them have that input. It’s just that I never use a pedal…normally I use the effect, filter, cutoff, loudness etc. knobs on the synth by hand. I suppose guitar players are used to pedals routinely.
