I recently reclaimed a Deluxe Memory Man that I had about 10 years ago. I am trying to figure out a general idea of when it was made. When I cracked it open to see the numbers on the pots they didn’t apply to the dating codes I found on another forum. The Blend pot says 2A2124 and the Level pot says BY8441A. The board itself is printed with EH 1307A and there was a small white handwritten sticker that says #7 on the chassis. Thanks for any help.

Probably 1978-79. I think the 4-knob was discontinued when the 5-knob was released.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. What year were MM first produced? I’m not up on my EH history and would like to learn more. My pedal is in pretty bad shape but sonically everything seems OK. I’m missing one knob and the chassis is starting to rust a bit. I’m gonna take it all apart and give everything a good cleaning with Deoxit. Do you know of any common problems that I should be looking out for?

    Thanks again.

The first MMs were released around 1976.
Be careful taking it apart and don’t break any wires.
The biggest problems on those is the solder joints for the filter caps. Resolder those then glue the caps to the board with silicone.

Thanks Ron! Is there any significance to the “#7” sticker inside?

    Probably the Quality inspector.

I have a catalog that I’m pretty sure was printed in 1978 (newsprint, with EH in blue against a black background, and a micro synthesizer ad on the back), and the Deluxe Memory Man in the catalog was already the 5 knob version with modulation. So I would guess that the 4 knob versions were discontinued by 1978 at the latest.

Interesting. I just called EH tech support and left a message. I’ll post whatever info I get if they call me back.

They just called me back and said that it was most likely a ’78 but it’s not possible to tell by the pots since they were all bought in bulk and not used in any particular order.

Hello to all. I have a pretty old memory man. It is an echo/chorus. If anyone can give me any information I would greatly appreciate it. My picture is too big so if you would like to see it just email me. Thanks Mickey

When dating your DMM, don’t worry about it being too forward. Memory Men are complete gentlemen! But they can get pretty crazy once you get to really know them!

That’s what I thought the thread was about, actual dating like boy girl dating.LOL I thought he was in the honeymoon phase of owning a DMM.LOL

BTW, since EHX stopped using CTS pots in their effects its almost impossible to get an exact date for any specific pedal. You can get a round about date if you know what date the revision of your PCB was done but not an exact date. That’s why I like the old vintage effects because dating them is simple as looking on the pots.

I took him out to dinner tonight but he kept repeating everything I said… in a charming way, I guess.

He’s a good listener. If you want to hear from him, crank up the feedback and he’ll open up to you. But be careful, prompt him too much and you may end up hearing terrible crazy things.
