EHX Tone Tips - “The Rapid Pulse Effect”

Posted 12/21/2010

Thanks to the mad scientists at EHX the Stereo Pulsar Pedal goes far beyond the standard tremolo effect.

The rate knob controls the pulse of the effect from zero to an insanely fast blur.

At its highest rate the low frequency oscillator is so fast it pushes the frequency up in to the audio range. This creates a carrier note producing a cool ring modulation effect.

In the audio example below a low guitar string is plucked while the Pulsar’s rate control is turned up to maximum. You can hear the guitar tremolo start as a slow pulse and then morph into ring modulation. With the rate control at maximum, several riffs are played to demonstrate the sound.
