It’s a pic of Mike flexing his arms. It was made during the attempted takeover of the tube factory and was available at the NAMM show a couple of years ago. I’ll try to post a pic tonight.

“attempted take over of the tube factory”? What’s that all about?

have you reversed the lid for the picture or does it not have the ‘big muff’ screen print?

The autograph is on the bottom of the box. It’s a standard BMP box.

That looks authentic to me. I have an autographed poster.

What’s on the poster, EH Man? Do you have a pic of it?

I hope for your sanity that isn’t fake 😆

I’ll be pretty gutted if it’s a fake

But I paid as much for it as I would’ve paid for a wooden box without the autograph, so I’d get over it.

Those wooden boxes were such a nice touch. I’m bummed that they discontinued that practice, though it might not be as cost effective or environmentally friendly.

I hope the new cardboard boxes are made from recycled materials.

you don’t need a white finger, black finger and BM deluxe W/SP and soul preacher!!!! facepalm-1.gif

….but….does the BMD have a attack knob/switch or whatever?

When have I ever been about “need”? 😆 If we start getting on about “need”, then it’s time for me to sell off about 4/5ths of my stuff. But I have to say, I’m trying my best to avoid the XO/nano reissues, only because I’ll be bankrupt if I start down that path in addition to the vintage lust.

The Dlx BMP only has a threshold knob for the compressor.

I thought you might get a kick out of this. I bought this Big Muff box on eBay a couple months back, and it has Mike Matthew’s autograph on it. Scott, can you verify its authenticity?

Now if I could just get Mike Matthews to sign my Soul Kiss ;)

yeah, I know what you mean…ideally I’ll pick up another to rehouse….or get someone to clone it (I have a schematic)

I dunno…..there might not be room for it anyway, we’ll see down the line….I’d like it to look like this.

Well, as long as you do that to the enclosure, I completely endorse the rehouse

It’s so pretty, though, I’d be afraid to stomp on it ;)

Great, now I’m having Soul Preacher G.A.S. I’d been eyeing them for a long time, but I ended up finding a great deal on a White Finger in its original wooden box, so I jumped on that instead. I don’t regret it, but now I want both :(

Speaking of Soul Preachers, I have a Deluxe Big Muff Pi (blend switch version), which has a Soul Preacher built into the circuit. The compression used in isolation (without the fuzz) doesn’t do a very good job of compressing the attack. The compression kicks in just after the attack, and it’s pretty noticeable in an unpleasant way.

Does anyone know the Dlx BMP well enough to know if it’s supposed to be that way, or if there’s a way to adjust it?

here’s my ‘under construction’ pic. (a mess of wires and pedals at the mo!!)

It will have my wiggler on it and an XO graphic fuzz and Big Muff/TW before the end of the month hopefully…I’ll have my whammy and wah off board and maybe the tuner if there isn’t room for it.

Looking good there, mate. Now that I see the Punkifier in context to the rest of the board, it does stand out quite a bit. Still, it always freaks me out to see people rehouse vintage pedals 😥 But I agree, somehow it seems out of place visually.

I spend a lot of time playing with pedal order. I have a general rule I setup by, but there are always exceptions to the rules, and those exceptions generally produce the most interesting results.

Compressors are tricky, because they also sound good at the start of the chain to help the tracking of the Pitch Shifters and the Filters. But I like how they smooth out the peaks in filter effects or deep modulation. They help with issues of overloading in The Worm, The Flanger Hoax, and the DMM. They also help with volume drop issues.

For standard, in-the-box functionality, I follow this chain:

    Pitch shifting – HOG
    Sustainer – vintage BlackFinger
Filters – Qtron+, Micro Synthesizer, Octave Multiplexer, PolyPhase, Tube Zipper, Zipper
Dirt – Big Muff Pi, Deluxe Big Muff Pi, Little Muff Pi, Hot Tubes, Germ OD
Wah – Muff Fuzz Crying Tone Wah
Compression – Black Finger (reissue), White Finger, Soul Preacher
Modulation – PolyChorus, PolyFlange, Electric Mistress, Deluxe Electric Mistress, Small Stone, Flanger Hoax
Tremelo/Vibrato – Wiggler, Pulsar, The Worm
Delay – Deluxe Memory Man, Stereo Memory Man (original)
Reverb – Holiest Grail, Holier Grail, Holy Grail
Equalizer – 10 Band Graphic EQ
Looper – Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, 16 Second Digital Delay

I completely understand why EHX has reissued their back catalog in the diecast enclosures, but I’m still a huge fan of the oversized bent steel enclosures. I’ve collected most of the old-school pedals, but there are a few that I can’t afford. Those are the ones that I’d like to see reissued, but with modern bonus features:

    Attack Decay
    Talking Pedal
    Queen Triggered Wah

This was always one of my favorite threads from the Harmony-Central Effects Forum: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1748026

There are some interesting ideas in there.

The one that I kept harping on is an Electro-Harmonix Cassette Tape Delay/Flanger for experimentalists who want to process tape loops, recycle old cassette tapes, and generally make unpredictable noisy mayhem.

    Hey Fenderehx

when you get the 16 second delay?

still searching for lofi loop junky?

Great to see you here, tubezipper!

Both the 16 sec DD and the Lofi Loop Junky arrived this week. I’m in Looper’s Heaven :-P
I’m going to start a 16 sec DD thread as soon as I get a chance to record a soundclip of it. it’s a fantastic pedal, but I want to know more about the mod that EHX can do for it.

    wow awesome!

how are you liking them, especially the lofi. I would love to create something on it. How much you get it for? cause they’re bloody expensive.

The Lofi Loop Junky is extremely simple, but brilliant for its simplicity. Like the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, it allows you to determine your own loop time without any count in. The 16sDD works more like the BOSS RC20XL – there is a count in, and the loop time is predetermined by setting the tempo and number of measures.

The SMMH and the 16sDD allow you to pile on multiple layers, reverse the loop, speed up the loop, and change the pitch of the loop. The LFLJ does not. However, the LFLJ and the 16sDD allow you to modulate the loop after it is recorded. The SMMH allows you to filter (EQ) the loop after it is recorded.

All 3 of them have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Let’s just say I didn’t pay anywhere near full price for the LFLJ, which is over $300 USD. It was used, but in perfect condition with the original box, cloth wrap, manual, and the power plate. I am quite happy with the purchase.

    LOL

I have to pass off some of my EHX addiction blame to you. Your website has given me the worst G.A.S. over the years, and still does.
BTW, I tried switching out the 4558 op amp in my Mistress, but that didn’t help the volume drop. Is there a different OP amp I should try?

    Cheers!
