    I figure we should go ahead and start a thread devoted to our pedalboards, for people to come and see, ask questions, and learn some stuff. Just think it would work better than having all the info scattered across a bunch of threads.

    I’ll kick it off with my bass board. This is actually the least EHX I’ve ever had on it! I intend to solve that quite soon.
    It is a little messy since I had been having some power issues and had to mess with all my daisy chains.

    Here’s one of my reviews, copied from the Talkbass effects forum.

    Here’s the second of my reviews. This time we’ll discuss the Deluxe Electric Mistress.

    Size This pedal is old large style. Same as the old Micro Synths, Old Frequency Analyzer, Memory Man, etc

    Power: I have a mid-90s unit that has an attached power cord. I believe the newer versions have an adapter, but I cannot confirm that.

    Bypass and Tone Suck It is not true bypass. It has a slight loss of low end when engaged. It adds a small bit of noise when the color knob is increased as well as going into Filter Matrix Mode. The newer models are now true bypass.

    LED: No LED. You have no way of knowing it’s on unless you’re paying attention to the sound.

    Controls 3 knobs, 1 switch. The knobs are: Color, Range and Rate. The switch is for Filter Matrix

    The Color knob adds a sort of trebly sound and makes the high end stand out a bit more. I’m not actually sure of what it does technically.

    The Range knob allows you to set the lower limit of the sweep.

    The Rate knob controls how fast the sweep is.

    Sound: The effect is very subtle through my practice amp here at the dorm. Through my GK rig it is more pronounced. It seems to respond best when my pickups are fully open. I’ve recorded 3 samples on my sound click page which you can find here

    The Flanger clip is a sort of Tool-esque riff/ripoff in D minor. Its played with a pick and gives you an idea for the extent of the flange. I had to remove some noise from this track. For some reason, the pedal was incredibly noisy when plugged into my sound card.

    The Filter Matrix clips shows off the metallic sounds possible in filter matrix. Then I play some chords and manually sweep using the depth knob. The Filter Matrix mode takes out the rate control.

    The 3rd clip is Flanger+Big Muff for some EVH style sort of sound. I really had no idea what to play, so take it with a grain of salt. You can hear a lot of the noise from the pedal in this clip. This noise actually does not come out of the amp whenever I’m playing. I’m not sure why it was there. My dorm room does however pick up a lot of radio interference.

    My Opinion: It’s a very subtle flanger that does the “jetplane swoosh” if you play with hard dynamics at a higher volume. Without your pickups on full and playing moderately loud, I think the effect is kind of lost. It can also do near-chorus sounds which is pretty cool. The noise is tolerable, when you do hear it. Filter Matrix mode is great for ambient noise fests. You can ever make the metallic overtone out of tune with the fundamental you’re playing.

    One again, I’m open to any questions or criticisms. Hope this helps.

    I have a suggestion for the classic style reissues which is to include an adaptor for the mini-jack style power socket to go on the end of a standard outside negative “barrel style” cable – Ibanez do it with the TS808 reissue, and it would make it so much easier for giving the pedals mains power.

    Not sure if thats what you were talking about though.

    I think there should be some kind of octave-fuzz pedal – i don’t have much of an imagination at the moment though :P

    This is taken from my initial review from Talkbass’s effects forum. This was written before I had a chance to run the blogger through my rig, and now I no longer have the blogger. I’ll put my impressions on sound at the bottom.

    So, I go to check the mail today and in the package compartment is a feisty little box, hopping all around. I figured this had to be the Bass Blogger.

    When I brought it inside and opened the box, the Blogger leaped out of the box and began searching for a keyboard to blog at.

    Unfortunately the first one it found happened to be the keyboard of a 1970s Baldwin Fun Machine. The blogger was confused to say the least.

    I calmly collected the confused Blogger and led it to my computer, where it immediately sat down and began blogging.

    Eventually, tired out from blogging, the Blogger passed out and allowed me to start writing this thread.

    So, I haven’t actually had the chance to hear the blogger yet. I have rehearsal later tonight and I’ll do it there.

    I’ll add in a real review when I get a chance, but here are my initial impressions.

    Appearance The Blogger looks pretty cool. Its the same size, shape, etc as all the other XO pedals.

    Controls: The Blogger has 3 knobs, and 1 switch. The knobs are Volume, Tone, and Drive. The switch changes from Fuzz and Drive. According to the EHX manual the knobs have the following functions:

    Drive Knob: In both Drive and Fuzz modes, turning the drive knob clockwise will increase the amount of distortion or fuzz

    Tone Knob: The tone knob rotates from left to right. As the knob is rotated the filter changes from dark to bright through a linear frequency range.This tone knob was designed to react with certain frequencies that are geared for bass and made to apply to both the fuzz and drive designs

    Volume Knob: In the fuzz mode, this is a master volume control after the gain stages. In the drive mode, the volume is inactive and remains at unity gain for optimal performance.

    The blogger has wet and dry outputs and mono input.

    One possible problem: The pedal itself is labeled above the power jack with “Do not use daisy-chained power”. The manual also suggests to not use the Blogger with anything but the battery, or with a dedicated power supply. Typical 9V center negative 200ma stuff.

    I may try daisy chaining just to see if it really works, but I am scared of possibly blowing my brand new pedal. I may just run on battery for tonight.

    I’ll try and make some clips as soon as I can, as well as actually hear the pedal. I have no cables and no amp at my house, so I’ve just been sitting here looking at it. It’s been fun to look at at least.


    So, I’ve rehearsed and gigged with the Blogger now. At first I was a little underwhelmed with it. When I was practicing around before rehearsal started, it seemed to lack any and all balls. However, once you get the amp volume up, the balls were very pronounced.

    The Fuzz circuit seems to be the Muff circuit, since I was able to dial in the exact same tones on the Blogger and my Muff. The OD has a nice edge, but I think I may not be too big a fan of OD since my favorite setting is having the drive and tone cranked. The Tone knob really changes this pedal’s sound, the filter it goes through is huge, so you can get a lot of different OD sounds.

    It sounds great as an OD, preferably at high volumes

    I also found, you cannot daisy chain the pedal. If you put it on a daisy chain, it will not power on.

    I was wondering how the drive was on this pedal with the envelope off and how it compared to something like the hot tubes?

    I’m interested in one, but I wouldn’t use the filter all that often, if the tube drive was good then it would make it a lot more desirable to me.

    a lot of people seem to have problems using this pedal (usually because they haven’t read the manual properly) but sometimes just because the knobs don’t always do what you expect them to do. (it’s full of suprises!)

    Personally I think it is one the greatest EHX pedals ever made and destined to be a classic.

    If you are having any problems getting to grips with what this brilliant pedal can do…or you don’t seem to be able to record a loop and overdub without a volume drop or other problems, this is the place to ask….I haven’t found something that can’t be sorted with some careful adjustments and preset planning.

    I’m currently building up a whole EHX set up in my pedal bag…at the moment it has a SMM/H, a Nano Small Stone, a Knockout.

    I have a Soul Preacher in the mail and a Big Muff with Tone Wicker on pre-order from Rose Lane Music and wiggler that’s being repaired.

    when I have those all together I’ll see what else I have room for…maybe a nano muff, GermOD, Graphic fuzz, or some more modulation…I’m not sure yet.

    but it’s gonna be great, that’s for sure….lol

    I’ll take some pics when it’s a little nearer completion.

    I’m sorry, I don’t have anything to record with. Everytime I go to look at something to buy, I end up buying pedals. To be honest, I don’t even know where to start with recording. I want something basic, but good quality.

    Yes, it can get that “slashed” speaker sound.
