Out of the box, it’s got a bunch of good presets. And has all of the things you are looking for. (I swear, I don’t work for Boss)
But dealing with the editor is fine, once you get used to it.
I used to have the TC Helicon which was a decent start. But this is very well work the pedalboard space in my opinion.
Get to a store where you can try one out. Amazon has them with a 30 day return policy. (That’s where I got mine)
guitartoysParticipantOK, First off, I absolutely love the VE-500. Very nice subtle pitch correction when I slide up to a note, or trail off.
The doubling and harmonies are really great. It can use either a guitar input or MIDI keyboard to help it set the key. But it’s doing auto-tuning based on that. And it’s really generally just fine. But if you are playing a gig, and have a set list, you can actually program the presets with the actual key of the song, and it locks in really well. Between that, the built in EQ, reverb, delay, and other effects, you can go right into a board and sound great. I’ve seriously thought, when hearing it, go, oh, that’s me.
The editor on the other hand, meh. Crappy UI, but it gets the job done. When compared to the Strymon editor or EHX editor for the POG, the Boss is the worse looking one. But as I said it gets the job done.
When I’m in the mood to mess with presets, I just fire up my surface computer, and launch all of the editors. It’s great.
I highly recommend the VE-500. It’s worth it the price.
guitartoysParticipantHey, thanks for getting back to me.
What I ended up doing, was put a little USB hub underneath my pedalboard. For things that want direct USB connection, like the POG3, my Eventide H9 and my Boss VE-500, I connected them to the usb hub. Then I got a little USB Midi interface, also under the pedal board, and connected my Strymon TimeLine and BigSky to that.
Now I have a single USB cable going up to an old MS Surface Tablet PC, and I can control it all from there.
Very happy. Makes setting up presets so much easier.
Thanks.
Michael
guitartoysParticipantIndro, you are amazing.
I just loaded a bunch up, and there’s quite a few there that I can really use right off the bat.
Folks should really load them up.
Thanks again.
guitartoysParticipantYou are awesome.
Now I really have something to use as a starting place.
guitartoysParticipantThe unit is amazingly well designed, and has tons of capabilities.
But barely more than a half a dozen presets is just terrible for such an expensive unit.
And one would think, that they would AT LEAST have presets for the demo tracks they put out.
They are also missing out on a huge opportunity to create a community, where they build into the app the means to share presets.
C’mon EHX, do better
guitartoysParticipantSo you are telling me that the rate in which a supply goes from 0 to 9v when powering up is the cause of this error? This doesn’t make sense. If this was inrush current, maybe I’d understand. But once the supply has settled, the pedal should just boot. I’ve never heard of this ever. What other pedals than EHX have this issue?
guitartoysParticipantI had the same problem with a C9 on a Strymon Zuma supply. I tried multiple C9’s and none would work with the Zuma. But they of course worked with the 9.6V EH supply.
I found the POG2 worked fine with the Zuma, and swapped to that. I’m in the process of making a little adjustable voltage regulator to take the 12V from the Zuma, and dial it to 9.6V to see if that fixes it.
