Its no secret, its simple and I have a diagram you can use, just let me upload it, I’ll post a link to it here.
January 24, 2009 at 11:44 pm #91714Ned FlandersModeratorUse this diagram, make all the changes in green. This is a NYC muff with a green sovtek muff tonestack.

January 29, 2009 at 1:40 am #92191valvestateMemberI own 2 Russians MUFF. One came with the wooden box and the other the newer China made units. I still prefer the old one since it has more volume and the knobs are tighter to twist. Newer one in my opinion feels a lil ‘cheap’ … lighter weight black box compared with the old one.
For the sound, I like them for those Santana-licks and grunge sound.
January 30, 2009 at 9:41 pm #92279Ned FlandersModeratorAs far as I know they are still made in russia, not china. The parts are still Russian I know that.
January 30, 2009 at 9:50 pm #92281electro-melxModeratoreh, how can a russian muff be made in china? I’m confused
January 30, 2009 at 9:56 pm #92284Ned FlandersModeratorMe too but it could be the same as NYC EH are partly made in china.
ANyways, I believe sovteks are still made in russia.

January 30, 2009 at 10:33 pm #92291Ned FlandersModeratorOr maybe internet hearsay destroys all truth?!?!?!
January 31, 2009 at 11:02 am #92334ErrenMemberI bought it 2 weeks ago and it still russian.These are the photos of pedal and box ;

is it new smaller box?
January 31, 2009 at 10:59 pm #92373Ned FlandersModeratorNo its the same box that’s been out for quite a few years now.
February 1, 2009 at 2:15 pm #92411BlueSteelParticipantBut if it is made in china now, then it can’t be called a russian muff.
February 3, 2009 at 12:57 am #92514valvestateMemberYeah, I might be wrong bout the China Muffs… sorryt bout that

It’s just that the newer casing now feels a lil bit lighter and more fragile compared to the Russian Muffs that came with the wooden box.
February 6, 2009 at 7:14 am #92766norumbaMemberbeen thinking about a russian muff for my first one…based on some online youtube demos, i think the thick lower end will be a better fit, but im looking for something a little more on the overdrive side rather than full on.
out of all the XO muffs out there, are there any that you would recommend that can handle a low tuning? im going CGCGCF, so lower by a third on the 6 th string — and a 1/2 step higher on the top two. it also need s to be able to handle chordal work well.
bazsed on Julian’s post on page 1, bass big muff seems a contender, but i wondr how it handles the top end….
looking forward to any additional thoughts …
February 6, 2009 at 7:32 am #92767Ned FlandersModeratorThey all handle low tuning, you should get the wicker muff, its very cool.
