Anyone have experience with patch cables you can cut to size like these ones from Crosby Audio? They look like they could be a good deal and you could make your board super clean with them. Just wondering if quality is good with cables you assemble yourself?

I’ve never tried them, some people swear by them, other people have said they’re pretty prone to failure. I’ve also heard that the best solution is to just solder your own, which I’ve tried and it’s a pain in the butt, although I was using pancake plugs and I think maybe the cable was too thick/my solder & my iron combo weren’t ideal.

The easy DIY cables are nifty, but I’m fairly certain that you won’t find any pros actually using them. Learn to solder, or find a friend that knows how. It’s NOT hard. The soldered cables are nearly bullet proof, and have less noise and better performance. I personally use the better grade Hosa premade cables with the metal connectors. I can’t justify the cost of the esoteric offerings, plus, the Hosa cables guaranteed for life. Back in the day, I tried the George L DIY cables. They were troublesome.
    Just my opinion.

I’ve had a plan in my head to eventually get a big loop switcher for which I’d need to make some custom patch cables. I was also thinking how nice it would be to add locking input and output jacks to my board & found that BTPA.com has an interesting selection of that sort of stuff. Haven’t got anything yet but I probably will eventually.
