I have just got myself my first decent amp (Orange Tiny Terror) and only used a multi FX unit previously (Boss ME70), but as I now have upgraded amp, I notice that the ME70 really doesn’t do the guitar justice and I decided to dive in to the world of stomp boxes.
I’ve always been after a really fuzzy tone but I’m trying at the same time to create something unique.
I had my eyes on the Big Muff NYC for a long time until I saw the G4 which looked very interesting as it’s so versatile and bought it straight away. I’ve had it for about a week now, I love what I can do with it but I can’t help to miss the fuzz tone of the NYC so I decided that I should go back to the shop for an exchange. However, my dad owes me some money and said that if I want he will pay for the NYC and I can keep the G4.
My question is, I know they sound different, but is there any point in owning both? I’ve seen in a forum that someone said that they put the G4 through the NYC and ended up with an amazing tone, but that was only one person. I need to give it back before the exchange time runs out if I want a swap but I can’t decide if I should have both or just stick with the NYC. I like having a dark fuzzy tone, with the band I play mostly stoner rock. My guitar is a Hagstrom Swede which is a great guitar for dark tones and I wouldn’t swap it for anything, I just wish I had money for better pickups but that’s not a major problem and an entirely different question.
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated as I would love to have both, but I’m not convinced if it’s worth the money. Thanks smile

yeah, lots of people stack distorition/fuzz/overdrive pedals. The entire point of stompboxes is to experiment.I vote keep both pedals; you can always save up for better pickups.

not ehx staff, just an effects enthusiast.

Thanks for your reply. I have been playing around with both for a couple of hours now and if I set the gain on the OD side of the G4 to about 12 o’clock and put it through the NYC it adds a really crunchy nice tone to the fuzz, but as soon as I touch the Dist side of the G4 it feedbacks like crazy and the tone is not very useable. Maybe I just need to experiment some more. I’m leaning more towards keeping both, even if it will leave me skint, I’m currently a student and don’t have much of an income but the guitar means more to me than an money.
