so, TheGhostMachina asked me about the DLS…
i play a Yamaha Telecaster (97’ i believe) with DiMarzio The Chopper Hb in the bridge position and Twang King SC in the neck position into the beautiful 4 EL84s George Dennis Mighty Mouse with selected JJ tubes and Celestion V30 speaker
in a band i play experimental rock music heavily influenced by funk and jazz. The DLS has no problem with cutting through the mix in a small garage or in a live situation. for solos i use DLS or my boutique Fuzz Face clone and i stopped looking for any “solo jump” - the DLS is awesome for both rhytm and lead playing. It can clean up pretty good and has a decent reaction to dynamics of playing. The harmonics and sustain are just astonishing, the natural sounding feedback is easy to achieve and sounds great, the artificial harmonics have never been so easy to get!
it has plenty of gain and it can even deliver some pretty heavy sounds - you just have to know how to use your right hand
but for heavy music, i’d recommend buing the SCOD by Catalinbread
by the way i recommend you trying it on more than 9volts… i tried it on 12 and the difference was pretty clear - i can’t really describe it, but 12V was better… i can imagine 18V would sound pretty rad
edit: everyone is so psyched about stacking other pedals with DLS. i have to say that with settings i use it can’t stack very well with the ( fully cranked ) fuzz face :D however, i’m not surprised… i believe that with other overdrives/different fuzzes and distortions it will sound killer
