Oh they weren’t that bad, its just that half of the Who is dead and the other half has Death’s clammy hand upon its shoulder. And they managed to play both CSI theme songs while on CSI’s home network. Now that’s cross promotion!

Can’t believe you got to halftime! I usually fall asleep during the 2nd quarter, as American football is the dullest sport on planet earth.

Prince was awesome though in 07

It was embarrassing and cringe-worthy in the highest order. It wasn’t all the bands fault, the mix was dreadful and it sounded like only half the band was mic’d up.. it’s nothing to do with Mooney and John being dead either, Zach Starkey is a great drummer…. it’s more the fact that Pete and Roger are just past it, sorry guys I love you but it’s the truth.

.... and I’m a fan.

I would have tuned in had I known they were playing. Love the Who, but Am football bores the crap out of me too. If they could condense the game into the 10-15 minutes of actual game play I would love it.

My dad said they sounded terrible, that Roger’s voice was the worst he has ever hear. Have to check to see if it is on youtube yet.

As I’ve said in other discussions. . . it’s not that they’re old, it’s just that they’ve lost the fire and the soul, which doesn’t necessarily come with age, I can think of a number of bands and musicians in that age range who still have tons of energy.  Youth is in the heart.

And the mix was awful, I could barely hear the guitar.

And the lack of Entwistle was pretty big too.  His bass MADE the Who.

skip ahead to 3:45 where Pete starts improvising.  He’s not afraid of feedback, not afraid of a little noise, of a little something unplanned.

That now seems lost.

Totally agree… the best thing about the whole thing was Zak’s cymbals and if he wasn’t playing for them they would sounded even worse smile

i think they weren’t that bad. only - i hate medleys. they should’ve sticked to a small set of whole songs!

BUT - they were much better at live8:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zydAs5bRW1U

still very energetic i think!

oh, and i agree - great stage and light!

and it’s funny to see all the british emblems at a super bowl! ;-)

and yes - the drums looked fabulous!

i was thinking about this the other day. why do they get really old bands for the superbowl halftime performance? i think it would be nice to see some younger bands in the future.
