well i guess ill admit that his last couple albums have been a bit of a sell out. and the guitars from Gibson and Epiphone only come because he has been recognized as a great, but im more of a fan of his from before he was noticed by the masses. his earlier work is even better, i swear he toned it down to be excepted.

and the “show off” comment i personally have to disagree to, he is a bit humble, be leaves in god, is a family man, and friends and family come first, he’s all about respect, and doesn’t care about shit if not. hes very down to earth, and has been him for over 20 years, i hate the fact that people judge him on how the media perceives him in the last 4 years or so when he got noticed by the masses.

for many years he chose to stay “underground” concerning his personal work (excluding playing for Ozzy)
it was the media that forced him into the lime light.

i admit that if i first known him in the last couple years, i wouldn’t like him, you got to get to know his history, Ive been there watching him for years.

but then agean everyone has there own perception, and as an example i respect every one for there own style but still don’t like them personally as sum thing i would choose to listen to, like Jack White that a lot of people including this site rave about. agean i respect him but hes not for me.

....anyway I thought this thread was about our favorites, not ‘the best’ or whatever?

Well, Hendrix is my favourite too grin

List of favourite human (non-Hendrix) guitar players would maybe be Robert Fripp, Freddie King, Robin Guthrie, John Lee Hooker, Marc Ribot, David Gilmour, Tommy Bolin, Frank Zappa, Zal Cleminson, Dave Tronzo, Brian Robertson, John McLaughlin, Rory Gallagher…Hideki Ishima is interesting too…there are lots of great musicians around, and that’s without getting too far outside the rock box.
How about classical guitarists too: I’d include Celedonio Romero, David Russell, Philippe LeMaigre, Paul Galbraith,  Tilman Hoppstock, Roman Viazovskiy…
Jazz? Wes Montgomery is the man!

Are those two things supposed to be related in some way? Jack Tilton, Oral Roberts, Ted Haggard, Billy Graham, Peter Popoff, Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, Rick Warren, James Dobson… none of those guys are particularly shy and retiring. There’s also this guy with the snazzy hat

pope_benedict-1.jpg

although none of them do the pinch thing every 8 bars, so I’m not sure what that means :D

(Not even going to get into Ted Nugent and Chuck Norris territory…)

.......I’m still thinking about that remark.

There are a bunch of guitarists I admire, but the three that have influenced me the most in the way I play guitar are:

Dave Fielding (The Chameleons)
Julian Swales (Kitchens of Distinction)
Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins)
