well a few days ago i was wondering… what would be my ideal pedalboard…

i’m not a hardcore EHXer… i’d still keep my Boss PH-2 and Visual sound jekyll/hyde… but in addition to my pedals as i have them now, i want a HOAX, HOG or a micro synthesizer and Cathedral reverb…

and then EHX comes with such an awesomeness as the Deluxe memory boy is… so now i want pedals in the aproximate cost of 1000 dollars… yuck… you guys are making me mad

let’s hope it’ll be reasonably priced… i’d love it if it’d be priced quite close to the SMMH - around 200 dollars

I believe it’s going to be about $175 street price.

that’s what happen to me…I have to admit it: I’m an EHX addict haha.

strange thing is that when i thought about my super-board, any other brands didn’t come to my mind… only EHX… damn, i’m hooked on EHX

DarkAxel….yeah im all EH these days, but i did have a VisualSound route 66 OD/distortion pedal, and i was quite fond of it, its pretty good.    these days its replaced with a full version Metal Muff w/top boost , its very versitile, you can tune in diff tones, its my favorite so far in the OD/distortion category, and i can count over 20 diff ones ive had over the years.

hey, im wonderin on the dmb, whats the gain gonna be like? how close to a germanium od or big muff?

i would expect it to be similar to a DMM - designed for adjusting your levels (or overloading your amp if you so desire). but who knows? that would be pretty neat if it had a built in fuzzbox.

also: the diamond memory lane is an analog delay with tap tempo; it’s an all analog signal path with digitally controlled business happening in there somewhere. but that guy’s like $600, whereas the memory boy deluxe is not. im not sure that the memory lane has the same amount of control over modulation parameters, but it has very rare and expensive BBD chips on the inside.

the older version i played was comparable in quality to a DMM, although there was no mistaking one for the other: the memory lane is cleaner and has less tonal character but is very very warm and very very nice nonetheless. it sounded very expensive, let’s put it that way. im not sure how the memory lane 2 sounds, but i can definitely understand someone preferring the less grittymagical memory lane over the very grittymagic DMM. just not me, or likely most of the cats on this here forum.

im anticipating the DMB will be very very gritty.

EDIT: upon further investigation, this thing is a memory lane killer - flat out. kudos to ehx for letting you select which parameters the expression pedal controls, and the modulation waveform control. also the memory lane 2 only offered dotted eighth, whereas the DMB has several intervals. i doubt anyone will have too many qualms with the inevitably lo-fi sound when a $200 analog delay offers this many options.

it seems the memory lane 2 is going out of production, anyways, so ehx has the market cornered.

oh shoot! yeah i should specify: diamond is a semi-boutique* pedalmaker along the lines of fulltone, selling pedals that sound spectacular but are rather unadventurous.

*i may have just made up this term, but it means a boutique company who has gotten so big that it now distributes to larger chains like long & mcquade. fulltone, zvex’s silk screened pedals and robert keeley all fit this bill.

dude, ive seen some zvex stuff before in musiciansfriend catalog, but i just went to their website, and they have some really cool lookin pedals. i dont know if they all sound good, but they have a really cool selection. you should all check it out. http://store.zvex.com/#1

zvex is basically the only pedal company that’s as cool as ehx. they just launched that online store, too, and the temptation to order a fuzz probe is mind-boggling. all of his pedals sound great but some of them sound intentionally bad, like the machine or the loop junky. so when i say ‘great’ i mean ‘great if that’s your thing and if you can afford it because even his silkscreened stuff is $200+.’

there’s just something special about having a woolly mammoth with serial # K0Z0 1 of 1 that you cant beat with anything mass produced. but seriously, it’s like $350+ for the handpainted pedals.

I wouldn’t say that Zvex is the only one.

There are a bunch of small and boutique builders making really cool stuff.

Yeah, Catalinbread, Barber, Subdecay, and Mid-Fi are all pretty cool. There are others too, of course.

I’d throw in copilot fx, Malekko, mellowtone, and fuzzhugger and the brands they sell

yeah i spoke a little too soon… so allow me to restate:

zvex is one of the few pedalmakers as cool as ehx.

Seems like a cool new pedal…for everyone else as delay doesnt exite me very much at all. I have a SMMH and it does everything I need and rarely gets used anyways.

they have really cool sounding pedals, like the wooly mammoth and the ooh wah. but unfortunately, they are like $350

I just got one a few weeks ago, and its a really great sounding fuzz. and its really fun to use the theremin on it.

There’s actually a lot of disdain for Zach in the build-your-own-pedal community. The circuits are exceedingly simple, and the quality of the builds are typically not up to par (not for a $350 pedal, anyway), so what you’re really paying for is the paintjob. I don’t necessarily share these feelings, but I did build a Super Hard-On for $10. The phrase “price gouging” comes to mind….
