Ron
i will send pics of the 4x10 freedom amp soon. i’m happy that you verified it’s existence as it’s the only one i"ve ever seen.  At first i thought it might be a fake, but after closer examination, the circuit board is original, the speakers are original, and the cabinet wood seems to correlate to other freedom amps.

:rawk:

I have only seen pictures of The Freedom Amp and only the word “Red Devil” I did see a picture of a Freedom Amplifier with Tolex and 40 D cell batteries out on a table (I did not count them but it mentioned 40 were required) I was surfing on the net for Electro Harmonix and Freedom Amplifier
and the wood cased (blond wood) unit came up on Amazon.com as out of stock and unknown if they would be getting any in (that was last night) I took a quick look today and found one for sale
(The wooden cased one blond pine wood cabinet /housing ) at

https://www.musictoyz.com/guitar/amps/ehamp.php

(I thought it might be a outdated post but the website read 4/19/2010

  Title of ad

  Freedom Amp

Portable amp with power and tone! In the 70’s Electro Harmonix stunned the music industry with the release of the original Freedom Amp - the first battery powered amp. The Freedom Amp uses a 8” speaker, special low drain circuitry, and Tone and Bite controls to produce superior tone with the highest output power of any portable amp. Features Pre Amp Out, rechargeable battery, and a handcrafted pine cabinet. Super low hum and the Pre Amp Out make the Freedom Amp great for recording.

The Best Street amp in the world!

Comes with recharger. There are only 70 of these made right now so they are RARE!!!!

IN STOCK…Order NOW!!!

Musictoyz.com Price $229.95
(shipping is $7.95 - it’s an amp)

I am not a E-H expert by any means is that true that only 70 were made
if so that price is not bad , unless I am unaware of something
as most battery operated (or rechargeable) Roland’s Cube Series, Line 6 small amps
(not sure they are battery operated, Crate Taxi and Limo Amps are more costly
and don’t have the EH pedigree

Thought I would put it up here in case someone was looking for one , I am not in the $$ market
to pursue it

Take Care

P.S. I think that a reissue of The Freedom Amp (wether the Pine cased one or the high watt 55 watt one or Guitar, Bass or PA or just try one (guitar or bass would be a great place to start)
and if pricing could be kept down and profits still made Bingo ..
What do You Think Mr.Mathews ?

I just received my Freedom Amp :D

Congratulations on that Super-Score!

I have 2 of the Mike Matthews’ Dirt Road Specials, and I’m guessing that the only difference between the Freedom Amp and the Dirt Roads is the built-in Small Stone and the D-cell battery option.

How are you liking it so far?

loud as heck with tonnes of punch.

in the shop right now but cant wait to get it back. Perfect for gigging.

I just picked up one of these on eBay recently. It’s in the shop right now getting the power section refurbished. I should get it by Friday. I can’t wait!!!

Maybe I mentioned it before? The Freedom Amp I picked up has twin speakers and a reverb. All original. It is really loud.

Hi guys,

Just picked up a Red tolex freedom amp and had a few questions.  For anyone who owns one, what does the guts look like in yours?  I open mine up to check it out and it appears that whatever was used to house the 40 D cell batteries is gone.  The wires coming off the switch on the DC side have been clipped as well as in two other spots.  On the speaker and running from the board to the transformer has been clipped and spliced?

The amp still functions in AC mode and takes a while to discharge when turned off.  It’s a bit noisy but tolerable.  It didn’t come with the AC cords so I just made one.  That brings me to my next question, am I going to get zapped using this?  I haven’t yet and made sure to match the white and black wires on both ends of the plug, but I have no idea the polarity of the male end coming from the amp?

I’ve posted a few pics to show what I’m talking about.  If someone has one handy can they take a look and maybe post some pics to I can compare.  Thanks.

P.S.
This amp is a monster!  So loud!

The 2 wires from the switch and circuit board are for the DC supply.  The 2 wires on the spkr are likely from someone’s attempt to hook up an extension speaker to it.
