This is my first EHX pedal, and I love it dearly.  (EDIT: To clarify, the first EHX pedal I ever owned, not my first and only EHX pedal)

I got it to make noises.  And it delivers.

I can make all kinds of wonderful metallic and robotic sounds, as well as more subtle sounds.  It’s really nice and clean sounding though.  Tons of headroom.  It gets really nasty when I put it before my Little Big Muff.  They’re a match made in heaven.  Mean mean tones.

Cons are that it doesn’t have a CV/expression input for controlling frequency which would rule (though I can tweak it with my foot pretty well now, and I do in some songs), it doesn’t have an LED (which I’ve been procrastinating on adding for quite awhile), and it doesn’t have a carrier in.

I use it for doing a lot of things- when you tune it to a power chord it sounds massive.

Turning it on/off quickly is useful as well.

With it down in the mix and tweak it with your foot while playing it sounds like there is a weird theremin in the background.

Also I like making quirky melodies with it.

And writing sci-fi themed songs.

So much fun.

It’s punk rock.

Nitefly does nice work, but you’ll never catch me rehousing an EHX pedal. I love ‘em OVERSIZED and full of room to spare

nitefly didn’t do that one, Beavis did it for him

I inquired with Beavis about having him do the same stuff for mine, plus maybe some extra stuff

and he said that it would be better for me just to do it myself

I decided against it though I am going to add in the carrier in thing

You mean first EVER EH pedal? WOW dude, you need to get some more EH pedals, they are easily the best effects in existence and value for money too! The Freq. ANalyzer is a pretty cool effect, I always think of devo when I hear about it.

I phrased that badly

It’s the first EH pedal I ever got, I’ve owned it for 5-6 years.

Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-Electro-Harmonics-Frequency-Analyzer-w-AC-sup_W0QQitemZ180333778763QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item180333778763&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:10|39:1|240:1318

Is this really vintage?  He’s claiming that the unit originally ran on 2 9v batteries, and he modified it to use AC power.

Mine was too. But was there ever a vintage Freq An in the deluxe enclosure, or did they only use the dlx encl for the reissues?

The vintage FA did use the Deluxe enclosures for a while but I’m not sure when the changeover took place.  I have a “What’s New” column from Keyboard magazine 1983 that shows the old-style enclosure but why it’s new when it had been on the market since at least 1975 is beyond me.  My Deluxe-boxed unit is dated 1983 on the pots.  That one on ebay has the earlier knobs.  Assuming the knobs are original it would be from 1978 or so at the latest.
I don’t see how it could run on 2 9v batteries.  The internal power supply puts out +/-15vdc.  Possibly for foreign consumption?

When EHX was planning the reissue FA Mike contacted me to borrow my vintage unit.  After they finished with it they sent it back then Mike called a day or 2 later asking for it again since they forgot to copy the artwork.  In return I got a brand new reissue FA from the first batch.
